An Unfortunate Incident
By ,
I can't disagree with anything that anyone has written here about this Inn. The rooms are very comfortable and the pool/spa is very nice. We always enjoy the gift shop even when we aren't staying here since it has kitties & dogs. Even though I enjoy vegetarian food, I've found the food at the resturant to be very hit or miss, I don't recommend it. My only major complaint is that the last time we stayed here with our dog we were accused by the staff of leaving the dog in the room. We had been out all day with our dog and when we returned to the room there was a curt message on our phone staying that we had violated the inn rules by leaving our dog in the room and would have to leave before our scheduled stay was over. I don't know if they heard some other dog and blamed it on us, but our dog was never left alone in that room. Well, we argued our position with the staff and ended up being allowed to stay for the full time, but the staff really gave us the impression that we were the bad guys and that they really didn't belive us. Personally I'd rather stay at the Little River Inn up the road.

Loved it!
By ,
We went to Mendocino in June for a nice weekend getaway. While the weather was pretty gloomy overall, our stay at the Stanford Inn was fantastic. It's the perfect place to relax. The indoor pool was amazing. The service exceptional. Breakfast at the restaurant superb. I did feel that dinner there was overpriced for what you get. The only turn-off was that we sat next to the owner at the restaurant for dinner. He was obnoxious and was talking loudly about business issues. Otherwise, I would definitey recommend and feel that it is well worth the price. Be sure to mention the AAA discount too.

We'll be back only to Stanford!
By ,
My husband and I stayed at Stanford 2 years ago... The most beautiful vacation we ever had. After Stanford tried couple of other places and decided if go to Mendocino, then only to Stanford. Very cozy rooms with wood burn fireplaces. The fetherbed is very soft and comfortable. The first night we weve hungry because the restorant is vegeratian and we are not. But food was very deliciaous. The service is great and the people are very friendly. Most memorable was the in-door pool with sauna and z-cuzy. The rates were about $300 a night, but worth every penny. Great place to relax!

The Vegetarian Ritz or Granola Meets IPO
By ,
When crunchy granola types win big in a tech IPO, they stay at the Stanford Inn by the Sea at Mendocino. Stanford Inn is more a resort than a simple inn, and its expensive, but mostly worth every penny.

There is a 4-star all vegetarian restaurant, a secluded spa, and warmed pool with sauna and hottub. You can walk through the large vegetable and flower garden that provides the ingredients for the 4-star menu (when you think steak - think portabella).

All the rooms are richly furnished and built with very nice wood.
There is a fire place in every room, and the maids actually "build" the fire place for you every day, so all you have to do is light a match. There is wireless internet in every room, and the best terry cloth bathrobes I've ever used (beats the Ritz, hands down - its soft in the inside, silky on the outside).

Pets are more than welcome. About half the visitors seem to bring their cats or dogs. There are dogs and cats roaming the grounds.

Since you are already plunking down at least 3 benjamins for a room here, plunk down one more, and stay in the "Barnyard Suite". It's a suite that is separate from the rest of the complex, and is half the first floor of the hotel owner's barnyard house. It's larger than most San Francisco apartments, and has a full kitchen and room for a whole family to stretch out.

Also, you get free rentals of bikes and discounts on canoe rentals.
