Good Value for the Money
By ,
This was our first time staying at the hotel and we were there with my 80 year old Dad and our 4-year old twin granddaughters. We really liked the hotel. Our room and the breakfast area were very clean although every morning when we went to the pool it was very dirty if we went before 11:00 am. Almost unsuitably dirty for swimming with many dead bugs and lots of leaves and dirt. Typically around 10:30 every morning someone came and started cleaning the pool and then it was good. But it is hot in Tucson by 10:00 am my one suggestion would be that someone start cleaning earlier so kids can swim in the morning before they start their day off of the property. The staff was very friendly and helpful. On our second to last day the person who was to clean our room called in sick so our room didn't get cleaned but that was a minor problem. Someone did come and give us fresh towels and take out the old ones. The free breakfast is very nice with hard boiled eggs, cereal, bagels & cream cheese, packets of oatmeal, bread to toast, bananas, apples, oranges, all kinds of juice, milk, coffee and the best things for our granddaughters was the Belgium Waffle makers. They made GREAT waffles and the girls got to pour their own batter in the machine and watch their waffles cook. There did to appear to be some interesting young people who were living in the hotel, but they were friendly and did not cause any problems. Also security enforced the closing times for the pool so by the time we were ready to go to sleep at night the hotel was quiet as can be. When we return in June 2001 we WILL stay there again because overall you just can't beat the value.

Weekend of Horrors! Awful service.
By ,
First, upon check-in, our room was dirty and ill-kept, to the point that the front desk manager had to come to the room to install two working lightbulbs. That night, security and noise control with college baseball teams staying there. I would expect a hotel to anticipate challenges and staff up, even if it means rent-a-cops to keep rowdy crowds under control. Men were undressing with their hotel rooms wide open and walking around the hotel with nothing but a towel on. And the noise made get any type of night's rest near impossible. It gets worse. When I came back for night two at 8:30, the room hadn't been cleaned. I called the front desk and was informed that staff had noted I did not want to be disturbed during the day. That is so untrue. I told staff cleaning the room next door that I'd be leaving the room at 2:30 and the room would be vacant for cleaning. I left notes about the dirty carpets and bed linens from the prior night. The night manager when I called at 8:30 said rooms were still be cleaned and that they'd "be right there." I returned at 9:30 and no one had come. Called again, and was told they'd be there immediately. By 10:15, I needed to get to bed, so I went to the front desk. They had no towels, so I had to find a cleaning cart and get towels, paper products, etc. At that point, sleep was more important than clean bed linens or carpets. Breakfast service both mornings was absurb. Garbage was overflowing, they were "out of everything." I'm surprised local health department would allow them to serve food in those conditions.

Terrible!
By ,
1. The clerk at the front desk was not helpful nor friendly. 2. The roll-away bed required was not there at check-in; I called, and they said they'd bring it about 9:30 pm, then hung up on me. At 10 pm, had to call the desk about the bed - she said to send someone to "help the security man" bring it up the stairs. The only one able was our high school boy, and the security guard made the boy take the bed and linens up by himself! 3. The cleaning ladies congregate at the foot of the stairs in the morning, carts blocking stairwell, and give you a dirty look if you make them move before they're ready. 4. Told the check-out clerk I was very displeased, and why. She dismissed me with, "Oh Really? Sorry 'bout that." The manager doesn't seem to be available.

Hotel or After-prom party spot??
By ,
I went to Tucson with my parents and my grandma, they snore terribly... that's why my dad was in a generous mood and booked an extra room for me so I could sleep like a baby... didn't work. At 2 am, there was a party going on outside my room... I called the front desk to report the problem, this woman called Courtney said there was a night club across the street, that they were making the noise and she could not do nothing about that. I replied her that noise was NOT across the street, it was INSIDE the hotel, and I wanted her to call security to shut them up... after a long discussion, she told me she would send someone to check up there (or shut ME up). But our discussion was so long, the party animals were already quiet... and being myself a nice (or should I say "stupid"?) person, I called back and told them the party animals already calmed down... BIG MISTAKE, they were on a 5-minute break, and the party went on and on. Next day: Me with bags under my eyes, and all the hallways of the hotel full of broken beer bottles... the good thing is the party was NOT in the hotel, imagine if it was.

Shockingly BAD!!! BEWARE -- Don't stop here!!!
First let me say that I'm a loyal La Quinta customer and have had wonderful stays at several other locations mostly in southern CA. That's why this hotel was so apalling. The rooms are shabby, of questionable cleanliness and badly in need of repair with stained upholsery, etc. The grounds are FILTHY and the landscaping pathetic. Teenagers were allwed to monopolize the pool, swimming in their T's and jeans until well after 10 pm. Older males hung out on the 2nd level hooting at passers by and swearling at each other. The surrounding area is not the best and the Denneys a few steps away attracts some questionable characters for their late night fare. The staff was mostly pleasant but one young woman was outright hostile and after I registered a polite complaint (about the preceding) and asked to cancel the remainder of my reservation, she immediately rekeyed my room (without telling me) so that when I returned I had to be escorted by maintenance to retreive my belongings so that I could leave, cutting my trip to Tucson short. Fortunately, one responsible (and more mature) employee took ownership of the situation and coordinated with LQ's excellent corporate customer service to refund the cost of my stay. The only thing I could see that qualified this location as a tier C ('better', more $$) hotel in the LQ chain is that they do have the fresh waffles and wireless Internet. The trade off for decent people and families of any age is NOT WORTH IT!!!

Older Hotel but Spacious Room
The hotel is older than I had expected, the room (king size deluxe) was spacious. Overall, it's pretty clean and I will definitely stay there again.

Could Have Done Better
By ,
Decent room. Had to ask for replacement comforters in the non-smoking room because the existing ones reeked of smoke. Bathroom not cleaned very well. Pretty good location with shopping and dining nearby (great breakfast place across the street). Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would not return just considering the room, but the staff was good.

Won't be returning
By ,
Checked in and stayed for two nights. After a big day of mountain biking found that the jacuzzi was cold. Called the front desk, was told it would be fixed in the morning. Next morning I asked the front desk about the problem and they acted like they had never heard a thing from anyone. Said it would be fixed. Come that evening, still wasn't fixed. Went the check out the next morning and the desk clerk just ignored my complaint. No apology, nothing. When I asked about a manager was told he wasn't there. When I asked for a business card to call and complain later was told there weren't any. And it was true -- I didn't see a hotel card anywhere. The rest of the hotel was pretty standard, and it was at least clean and quiet. The continental breakfast was nice. Just wish they hadn't given me the runaround.
