Sad State of Affairs...

About the only positive comment I can make is that the owner, Frank Langford did allow me to stay at the hotel with my dog but I suspect it was only because he feared a lawsuit as I reserved a room through a hotel website which mistakenly listed the Vendome as a pet-friendly place. The owner -- who just sold the place -- made a halfhearted attempt to help me with my bags but because I had so many items on hand, I suspect he was simply overwhelmed. I did feel uncomfortable in Room 15 because of the odd lighting that appeared at night, the cracked wall and towards the end of my stay a leaking ceiling. In need of a pet-friendly hotel for another two weeks, I told the owner (who apparently made no offer to allow me to extend my stay) that I could leave a day early should he refund me for one night. He told me to take it up with the hotel website which I found odd considering that I thought the hotels were paid by these websites for booking reservations. As for the amenities, the coffee stunk, the continental breakfast was nothing more than supermarket donuts, white bread and rotting fruit and to add insult to injury, I forget to take quite a bit of food I left in the hotel refrigerator. When I inquired as to whether or not the owner could drop off the food at the new hotel where I was staying (since I didn't have a car) he simply said no. When chatting with a friendly soul in town about my fiasco, she said that she, too, had a not so nice experience at this historic hotel and when approached yet again about a refund for one night, the owner told her, too, to take it up with the hotel website. I think it was wise for this husband and wife to get out of the hospitality industry because success in the field requires one to be hospitable!
