Best Trip to Valdez
By John Creighton, 6/23/10
Well after finding out that the Best Western was full I found a room at Mountain Sky. I was pretty bummed because of reading the reviews but this is evedentaly not the same hotel as described in below reviews. I walked in and the hotel was playing ragae! Dont listen to it normally but nice change of attitude when its pouring rain outside. Front desk was super friendly and had a big smile on their face. Rooms were spotless. Really amazed. The matresses were a bit older but i slept like a baby with the beding, Seemed like a down comforternice, duvet cover, nice sheets 6 pillows. Not sure if its under new ownership or managemnent but they got their problem fixed. I used to stay at best western but no more. Mountain Sky is the better option. No restaraunt but good continental breakfast. Waffles, buscuits and gravy, fresh oatmeal, bagels, muffins, and cereal. If this place had a restaraunt I would never leave!

Too bad it's 1 of only 2 hotels in this town!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/19/09
Poor service, unfriendly management, poor, untimely, and sparatic maid service. The pictures make this hotel look clean with a sense of elegance but it is anything but. The carpets look nastier than a college frat house rug, the floor in the eating area never once got mopped in over the 2 weeks I stayed there; despite the huge obvious spills of sticky juice and spilled food. Each of my two experiences over the past two years of this hotel have been the same as well. Also, don't count on the hot-tub to be in service (ever) it has been broken for almost 2 years now and they will never fix it. The hotel still advertises they are part of the Alaska Airlines mileage program but in fact they stopped offering it 2 years ago! (gotta love those bait and switch amenities!) They rent out rooms on the lower level to a local trek business for they're operations and subsequently the doors are never locked despite the card lock on the outside door and there is traffic from the business until late night hours. The owner of the bisiness is even allowed to bring a huge unkept st. bernard into the hotel but if you are a temporary quest, they have a strict NO pet policy for you, just to show their hospitality. The day manager woman, (didn't catch her name) desperately needs a lesson in hospitality. On two occasions I witnessed her yelling at her employees and houskeeping staff and threw, yes! Actually threw a clipboard at one of them in front of guests and stormed off! I also live in Alaska and can tell you first hand Alaskan hotels usually offer less than what most may be use to in the lower 48 but this place is the worst place I have ever stayed in the state since I have lived here. FYI: The only other hotel is a best western on the waterfront, that staff seems much more polite and the restaurant and bar attached to it is pretty good, however I have never stayed at this one, yet. But you can bet your bottom dollar my next stay in beautiful Valdez will be at the Best Western!

I like the cleanliness of the hotel and the attentative front desk staff. this was the cleanest hotel in valdez. i stayed everywhere and they meet my requirements. pool is small but the only one in town and breakfast was filling but not complete. overall I wil only stay there for business.

Checked out EARLY!
This hotel had awesome ratings online but I have learned not to believe what you read online. This place made the Motel 6 look like a suite. The "Pool and Spa" is a kiddy pool that can fit 6-8 people at most without bumping into eachother. They advertise belguin waffle continental breakfast which is one griddle, cereal and english muffins. As for the rooms they are nothing great for the price, especially seeing that you have to share your bed with insects we havent figured out whether they were fleas or bed bugs! Honestly, I would go with one of the other hotels or even pop up a tent at the campground! --Very Disappointed--

We must have had the only bad room in the hotel
By LisaM, 7/30/06
We must have had the only bad room in the whole hotel. I was quite surprised that this hotel had any good reviews. We travel a lot and our room wasn't the worst we've stayed in, but pretty close to the worst. The bed was rock hard, like sleeping on a board. The shower was weak and jacuzzi tub had a ring of black grime around it. I will say that the location wasn't too bad, within walking distance to most everything. I do recommend visting Valdez, the views are wonderful. I just don't recommend this hotel.
