Too bad it's 1 of only 2 hotels in this town!!!

Poor service, unfriendly management, poor, untimely, and sparatic maid service. The pictures make this hotel look clean with a sense of elegance but it is anything but. The carpets look nastier than a college frat house rug, the floor in the eating area never once got mopped in over the 2 weeks I stayed there; despite the huge obvious spills of sticky juice and spilled food. Each of my two experiences over the past two years of this hotel have been the same as well. Also, don't count on the hot-tub to be in service (ever) it has been broken for almost 2 years now and they will never fix it. The hotel still advertises they are part of the Alaska Airlines mileage program but in fact they stopped offering it 2 years ago! (gotta love those bait and switch amenities!)
They rent out rooms on the lower level to a local trek business for they're operations and subsequently the doors are never locked despite the card lock on the outside door and there is traffic from the business until late night hours. The owner of the bisiness is even allowed to bring a huge unkept st. bernard into the hotel but if you are a temporary quest, they have a strict NO pet policy for you, just to show their hospitality.
The day manager woman, (didn't catch her name) desperately needs a lesson in hospitality. On two occasions I witnessed her yelling at her employees and houskeeping staff and threw, yes! Actually threw a clipboard at one of them in front of guests and stormed off!
I also live in Alaska and can tell you first hand Alaskan hotels usually offer less than what most may be use to in the lower 48 but this place is the worst place I have ever stayed in the state since I have lived here.
FYI: The only other hotel is a best western on the waterfront, that staff seems much more polite and the restaurant and bar attached to it is pretty good, however I have never stayed at this one, yet. But you can bet your bottom dollar my next stay in beautiful Valdez will be at the Best Western!
