Anchorage is Great,, This Hotel is Not
My husband and I stayed at The Hilton Anchorage in April 2004. The hotel is in the city center, within walking distance of many downtown shops and restaurants.
Our room was just average and was a handicapped room, which we didn't need. I would have preferred a normal room. We had a nice view of the Chugach Mountain Range, but also of the roof of the building next to us, on which was a large bag of trash which remained our entire visit. This could have easily been removed by opening our room window. The room looked tired and needed renovation.
The hotel has no parking lot on the premises, instead you need to use a public lot about half a block down the street.
Be warned that this is a "cruise ship" hotel and according to one of the staff, is extremely full during cruise ship season.
We ate lunch in the coffeeshop and the food was fine, however, I would highly recommend Simon & Seafort's Saloon & Grill at 420 L Street, (907) 274-3502 (just a short walk away) for lunch or dinner. The seafood is excellent, the service is friendly and efficient. We ate lunch there one day and liked it so much, we went back for dinner. Be sure and make a reservation for dinner, they are very popular.
I enjoyed Anchorage, but if I visit again, I would chose a different hotel.
