Ain't What It Used to Be
By George, 9/27/12
Over the years, my family and I have visited Lake Guntersville State Park many times. We have stayed in the accomodations and hiked every trail in the Park at least twice. This time my wife and I (kids grown and gone) came again to "get away" and do some hiking. We were terribly disappointed by the condition of the hiking trails. Almost two years ago, tornadoes visited the area and effectively destroyed the integrity of the trails, in most cases making them practically impassable. It was almost impossible to locate the trailheads and the trails in many cases were unmaintained and choked with tall grass and weeds. Downed trees crossed them in many places. After going a little ways on a few of them, we gave up. The camping area, formerly lush and well-treed, now resembles a war zone. On the plus side, the remodeled Lodge is nice, the staff very friendly and helpful, and the accomodations are good. I heartily recommend the chalets if you come. The restaurant food is good, but a bit pricey and the selection is not that large. Until the trails situation is improved, I would not recommend coming here for hiking or trail biking.

bad time
By larry, 9/7/12
The only nice thing about Guntersvilles State Park was the view from the lodge area. We got there on 8/31/12 and left 9/3/12. My daugther in-law was the first to use the bathroom and she found hair on the seat with blood. It appears they did not clean the bathroom before we got there. It also rained heavy and water some how got into the front room. We rented a pontoon at the state park and it had spiders on it and it was very dirty. It did not come with a anchor you had to pay extra. We got back we found out the gas gage did not work. We were not told this til we got back. The girls did like the beach. I will not recommend this park to anybody.

Brand new and beautiful!
By Kris, 8/4/08
Our newly remodeled room in the lodge was tastefully done, clean and had a refrigerator as well as a microwave. Views of the lake are spectacular. There is a spacious dining room with Friday and Saturday night buffets as well as order off the menu entrees. There is a delicious Sunday brunch too. We enjoyed hiking some of the many trails in the park. The pool and hot tub were full of children most of the time as you would except for the weekend before school starts. There is a beautiful championship 18 hole golf course, but the 2 tennis courts leave a lot to be desired. We found the entire staff to be very helpful and friendly. The entire weekend was great fun and the cost was very reasonable. I would highly recommend staying there.

dinning room service only bad thing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/11/08
Just got back from a overnight stay, this place is wonderful and the updates throughout the lodge are the best around. The lodge is back to being the best in the state. The rooms are as nice as a 4 to 5 star hotel and the food in the resturant was very good, buffet and off the menu. The only problem we had was the watresses in the dinning room were not slow to respond but "didn't respond to any request we had, so they sure didn't get a tip for their hard work. Again if you haven't been to see the lodges changes and updates please get a room with a bluff view and sit back and relax..

Beautiful area
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/26/07
Beautiful and private with great views of the lake. The cabins are very spacious and homey. The decks out back are great for viewing the lake day or night. A great retreat literally out in the forest. Only complaint: no microwave.
