We enjoyed our stay at the diplomat Resort
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/17/09
We enjoyed our stay at the Diplomat resort. The units are directly on the beach with beautiful views of the ocean and sunset. Our 2nd. floor effeciency unit was affordable, clean, well furnished and close to resturants / shopping ... WE WILL RETURN.

Disappointed room #255 DIplomat
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/23/09
It was really small & no seperation of the kitchen are to the bed.The PROS: Best thing I could say about this place is Clean & Great AC that kept the room cold. Nice view of the beach out your window & chairs outside your door to sit on & watch the waves. CONS: Taking Blue Apartments..NOT RESORT..No new appliances here. An Old TV with no cable & a worn out appearance to the room that could use some updating. There were really bad cracks in the ceiling possible water damage. The King Size Bed was a very old Mattress & Boxspring that seemed to be rotting with discolor of yellow. The sheets on the bed were rough along with a cheap comforter of the feeling of old. I have actually had better sheets at a Motel 6} No Comfort what so ever at this place. I tried to be gone most of the time on the beach as this sad place suffered. The shower had no pressure & handles got stuck as they were bent & also needed replacing. The toilet for some reason started to have flushing issues most likely related to plumbing issue with water pressure. Kitchen was ok. Very outdated" No garbage disposal. Some Utensils. The Cochroaches were outside the door at night & this room happen to be steps out the door to the large garbage bin. I am assuming thats were the cochroaches hid. They were HUGE ! & got into the room. I had to go over the room completely each night before I could climb into the uncomfortable bed.:( I found myself unable to sleep due to the comfort issue :(.. 3 days into the stay I awoke with big welted bites on the back of my legs & behind the knees. I was using every bug spray they sold at the counter LOL. There was a bug outbreak in the room I realized I was being feasted on while I was half cocked sleeping. These little flying bugs were hatching right from the window seals & AC unit. The BEACH : If your looking for crystal white sands then this isnt the place for you !! Go to Siesta Key or Lido Key or you can head up the gulf. This beach is best for shelling. The sand isnt the cleanist either as advertised because of the tourists who dump there garbage, old flip flop shoes..etc. behind. The other BAD thing we didnt like was the fact that fisherman were everywhere fishing right off the beach where you are lying out at. A bit afraid of getting hooked by a old fishook..unsure why the beach allows this along the whole beach all the way down you can see old fish nets caught in the water stuck thats killing the sealife. Somebody should clean this place up & do a better job with protecting the waters !! SAND FLEAS whatch out.. Amentities: POOL & 1 Dirty Small Washer & dryer for Laundry 1.75 a load. I decided to go up to town & wash my clothes. The area: Its amazing that 1 minute your passing beautiful million dollar homes & then BOOM you run into rundown areas all around.Wierd.. Best advice is the Rule of thumb never let your guard down no matter where you vacation. Would we come back ?? Probably not as its not worth the money.. Restaurants in the area are HIGH PRICED & not that good. BEST $$$ Tijuana Flats in Sarasota FL - BEST FOR YOUR MONEY & GREAT FOOD! A must check out,,,If you ask where they area everyone will act stupid & send you up the road to Armands Circle to spend your $$. Our Advice : Please take this review into consideration before booking at the Diplomat as the units are indepently owned & most reviews are lies from the actual owners or hired help. Spend your vacation in ARUBA !! We WISH we did!!! We have been there many times & spent half of what it cost us at this place & area. IF YOU DO DECIDED TO STAY..GOOD LUCK

Unit 246 is a fantastic and relaxing accomodation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/16/09
This is a fantastic and relaxing accomodation. We usually stay in Unit 246, it has been recently updated, completley tiled and is very clean. This unit has a new, large picture window overlooking the gulf and beach. You can hear the waves and view the beautiful sunsets out of the big picture window. The Diplomat Resort complex is located directley on the beach and close to the Publix shopping center.

Best Bargain Around
By William S, 01/25/08
This is the best bargain on the island. All doors open to the beach. We stayed in 210, a first level end unit with extra windows and light.

Great Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/06/07
We had a great experience. The view is incredible. We stayed in unit 255 and it was nicely updated and clean. We loved seeing the sunset every night from the balcony. The Beach was just a few steps outside the room.

Right on the beach
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/20/07
We have stayed at The Diplomat many times. The rooms are spacious, clean, and right on the beach. Run in and out of your condo all day long for popsicles, sunscreen, etc... It's also convenient to shopping and restaurants. Our kids want to go back year after year.

Wonderful - especially unit 239
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/18/07
I agree with the other reviewers that the location with sugar sand beach, sunset, close to St. Armand's Circle for shopping cannot be beat - especially at this price (moderate for exclusive, relaxing Longboat Key). Your back door is literally on the beach, which is unique on Longboat Key. What is special, however, is unit 239: first floor, end unit so extra windows, and it's all new! Bathroom is all warm creamy beiges, oversized tile is laid on the diagonal throughout, contemporary furniture is comfy (ex: leather sectional with 2 built-in recliners). Pillow-top kingsize bed makes it a perfect get-away for a couple -- young or old.

Fantastic facility with gorgeous Beaches and Sunsets
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/10/06
This is an absolutely fantastic place. Each unit is individually owned and decorated and most are kept up to date. We usually stay in Unit 244, it is very clean and stylish. The location of this complex on the island is almost exactly in the middle. The beaches here are gorgeous, and what really makes the Diplomat unique is the fact it is one of the few two story complexes versus the mega high rises all around. This makes you feel in touch with the ocean, and allows for very close and easy access to the beach. From the rear patio or balcony, the Gulf is literally a stones throw away and the sunsets are out of this world! Opening your window at night allows you to sleep to the ocean's soothing waves. We have been here many times before and will continue to do so. It is moderately priced, and they even give a discount on several nights stays.

We WILL Return.....
By Carol, 01/09/06
01/09/06 - Went back again and spent a nice and quiet New Year's Eve there. DITTO of what we wrote in November 2004. ~Carol & Bob November 30, 2004 - Just what the doctor ordered!!! By Carol & Bob Overall: Just what the doctor ordered!!! Loved having the choice of swimming in the pool or in the Golf of Mexico which is located approximately 100 ft. from your doorstep! A little dated, but clean and comfortable. Everyone was very friendly and nice. Would definitely go back there. Thank you.
