Good times
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/07/10
The place was right off of time square, couldn't have wanted anything more! The rooms where very spacious and clean, although the decor was slightly dreary! The hotel staff where friendly, a little slow and unprofessional, but friendly never the less. Would definately reccommend this place, it was cheap and cheerful!

Great location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/29/09
We had a 2 bedroom combo - the rooms were spacious and comfortable. The only problem was the bathroom was small and could only be entered through one of the bedrooms - not both.

Ok, but poor management
By MeganV, 10/06/09
At check in, no one welcomed me, the manager just pointed down the desk and said "Down there", since there is no rope to line guests up in order. Moved down, others that came in after me were waited upon. I was told to move down again with no explanation. Finally I checked in. Room was cute and decent for the price - some hairs in the shower/bathroom and in the bed, but for the price in NY, I guess you can't expect much. At check out, same poor management! The manager had attitude and was rude, and didn't even bother to ask me how my stay was or smile. If you can deal with poor, unfriendly front desk managers, then the hotel stay wasn't too bad.

Stay Away - Bed Bugs!!!
By Gordon, 09/02/09
The room was infested with bed bugs, my friend had bites all over her body. It was obivious that the hotel has had plenty of exprience dealing with bed bugs. They gave us a refund but that doesn't compensate for the hassle and annoyance.

okay, little reno could go a long way
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/10/09
I give two stars because of smell, humidity, and inadequate showers. Overall the hotel is okay, and the location amazing (next to Times Square). The location keeps this hotel alive, it might not survive in an other city, but this is Manhattan. The hotel kinda smells old, at least on our floor. The service was good, staff polite. The bar on the main floor is a quiet place to wind down after a day of visits. We went to the hotel restaurant next door once and we'll never go again. The Ruben was greasy, and so was the Philly cheese and steak, too bad coz the decor is beautiful. Fortunately, there is plenty of good food around, look for the Food Emporium stores (there is one on the corner of 8th and 50th), or restaurants on the 8th. Now back to the hotel. The shower was blasting water so hard I had to put my skin back on when done, and the water temperature could not be controlled. Hint to the Edison owner: low flow shower heads and pressure mixing valves will save you thousands in water and water heating bills while increasing comfort. There was NO air circulation in the bathroom, so we ran the AC at full blast to lower humidity. Hint #2 to the owner: install exhaust fans in bathrooms, they are cheaper to run than air conditioning. For other reno hints watch Holmes on Homes (the best tv show on reno ever). It took us 50 minutes to get to the hotel from La Guardia, at a cost of almost zero because we used public transit. I saw less graffiti in NY public transit than in the Paris Metro. The subway is fast and the trains have AC which was very pleasant. All this to say we did not use the $36 hotel shuttle. I am still watching my skin as we stayed one week and it felt itchy at times.

Bed Bugs!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/29/09
Location was perfect. Room was affordable. Concierge was delightful. While we had a lovely stay at the hotel and found it within our price range.. when I returned home I found bug bites on my leg - about 48 bites. I also got bit under my arm the first night but ignored it. The room looked clean, the sheets and bedding seemed clean but definitely the bottom of the line in quality. The shower did not drain fast but that is to be expected in older hotels. Room was small and bathroom tiny but we knew it was an older hotel and so we sorta expected that. The bug bites put a damper on my overall experience but my daughters did not get any from the bed they slept in. Will we stay here again - probably not - but we won't rule it out completely.

don't do it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/20/08
We had lunch in the cafe adjoincent to the hotel. Wate staff were rude and sarcastic. It was a damper on the nyc holiday expereience, more so than the rainy weather. Food was tolerable. Overall cleanliness was below par. nyc has so much to offer, this was not one of them.

Location and Price -- we'll stay there again
By M, 08/31/08
We just got back from a weeklong vacation in NY. This hotel is literally steps from Times Square and right next door to the W Hotel. It's only a couple of blocks from the subway. There is a little convenience store next to it as well that offers a huge salad and food bar, as well as deli sandwiches made to order. We were skeptical about the hotel after reading some of the bad reviews, but overall, for the price and the location, we plan on staying there again. Don't expect luxury or a view. Our 1 queen bed room wasn't as small as we expected, but the bathroom was tiny. The hotel definitely needs renovating, but then the price wouldn't be so affordable anymore. We paid $195/night for our room and several times we talked about what a steal we got in comparison to other places in the area. If you're looking for luxury, don't stay there. If you're looking for a solid place, with good security and an unbeatable location to see the sights in NYC, this is your place.

Hotel was Okay!
By BONNIE, 07/09/08
The Edison hotel was not the cleanliness hotel I have ever stayed at but it was good. I was in one of the corner room and i was pretty big for a cheap room. I went down with my dance group so we did not expect much but when I saw how close we were to time square and i thought I could live. We had a commute to the dance place we danced at (Ripley Giers). The maid was kind and we actually had cell phone service. I would go there again and it was in walking distance of most broadway theaters and many restaurants. I was impressed at the uniqueness of the hotel but the view was terrible it was of a dark alley that CREEPED ME OUT! If you want a cheap but good hotel stay here.
