A Throwback in Time!
Being lucky and catching a company trip to Hawaii, I decided to tack on a couple of extra days on my own. Not having the $$ to stay at the Hilton, I did some Internet searching before the trip. One of the best prices I could come up with was the Waikiki Prince. Now, being the pessimist that I am, I didn't have high hopes, but thankfully I was wrong. First off the service was top notch: Mozah kept in touch by e-mail constantly to let me know how the reservation was going - and was able to score me a parking place (there are only a few) at the last minute. (He was kind enough to contact the hotel across the street about overflow parking in case it was needed). I arrived VERY late on a Friday night after island hopping from the Big One. A note on the front door instructed me to my room, which was clean and ready to go. The throwback was that it was like being in a coldwater flat in Manhattan! I had the very last room all the way in the top corner of the 6th floor. Had to pull my luggage up from the 5th floor since the elevator stops there. A note on the table in the room let me know I was ready to go. The location of the hotel is right next to a hostel, and it was a bit noisy on this Friday night, which made me fell all the more like being in that coldwater flat (voices, truck noises, music)! There were slatted glass windows that seemed like something out of the 60's, and the lack of curtains had me a little perturbed, but a couple of well placed bath towels cured that. The A/C was a bit noisy too but I was so tired it didn't really matter. Since I was planning on being up and out by 6am the next morning, the size of the room really didn't matter either: clean, dry, and comfortable was all I needed and was what I got - and the price couldn't be beat! The fact that everything was handled so well made it all the more pleasing. So, if you need something inexpensive but not fancy, and want to take a step back in time, the Waikiki Prince is the place for you!
