Staff knocked on our door after we cheered for beach fireworks on our balcony at 10pm and said there was a noise complaint (even though the boardwalk and balconies were filled with a cheering crowd). We were told the place was remodeled but the same wood paneling as our last visit was on the walls and badly bowed in our room. The only differences we noticed from last year were a flat screen tv , a keycard entry instead of a door key, very stiff mattresses and hard pillows and a non-smoking balcony sign. We had to sign a no smoking agreement and agree to a $200 fine if smoking occurred, which was new from our past visit (smoking was previously permitted on the balcony) so the elderly and handicapped smoker in our party was forced completely off the premices to smoke. It would've been helpful to inform us that they had changed the smoking policy when we called to book the room...instead we were told they were "all new rooms" which was definitely not true. The furniture (aside from the tv), the artwork, the bathroom, the walls...all the same. We could hear a baby crying and its mother yelling in one of the rooms adjacent to ours and were stunned that we were told about clapping for fireworks and then had to hear that all week. There were 3 kleenex in the box in our room that were used the first day and it was never replaced so we had no tissues for 6 of our 7 days. There was a hair on the corner of the bathtub that was there the entire week. Last year we asked to stay an extra night and could not be accommodated so we stayed down the street for $70. less. We went back to the Belvedere this year instead of the other place because we liked being at the quiet end of the beach near the end of the boardwalk even though it is not convenient for walking to dining or shopping. Now I regret spending the extra $500.
If you plan to clap for beach fireworks, or have a smoker in your party, or want to be sure you have a place to park that you can pull out of the next day...this might not be the place for you. Screaming babies at all hours with parents who argue about the child's screaming---permitted. If you have well-behaved children who you allow to stay up one night a week to watch and enjoy the fireworks...expect a knock on your door a few minuets later.
This was a terribly disappointing stay. The place has gone so downhill in a year with the false-advertising about a "complete remodel" and the feeling that big brother is about to knock on your door if you walk too loudly at night to use the restroom with the hair that's been hanging off the side of the bathtub for 5 days. There is just too much competition on Atlantic Avenue to stay somewhere like this.
We stayed here one night and it was enough. When we checked in we were asked a TON of questions. The staff made us feel uncomfortable, as if we shouldn't had stayed there. I also feel as if they are only there for families. It was nice inside, but very trashy looking outside. Made me feel unsafe on the balcony. Over all i just think it's a waste. Nicest way to put it.
The room was okay, nothing to brag about. The Hotel is very dated and needs to be remodeled. Makes you wonder about the safety of the rooms and the balconies. Staff that was on duty Friday night was very rude. Seemed as if he wanted to be someplace other that working. Was impressed all. Will look for somewhere to stay next time.
There was absolutely nothing to dislike about the Belvedere. The cleanliness, best location, service was great and a great value. The food at the little diner is always great. I have eaten there many times. Love the bike rides early in the morning. Can't say enough. Great staff and owners. Had a chance to talk with them. Nice family. I'll be back. The ocean view was so relaxing. It certainly beat the big hotels. Thank you for making my grandson and my stay a nice experience.
This is the best place on the beach. I woke up every morning to the beach and waves just the same as the people staying in the $280/night room at the hotel next door. Absolutely loved it! Rooms are clean. Staff is sooo friendly. Coffee Shop was wonderful. Pool was great! Free bicycles! Will be going back later in the summer with my son and I don't think I'll stay anywhere else on the beach for the value of the money.
As a family of four, we've been going to the Belvedere for over 25 years...My husband and I started going about 30 years ago...We've even taken friends and family with us...The Belvedere is our home away from home...We all love it and look forward to going back year after year. We meet our friends who have also stayed for many years like us! The Belvedere will always be very dear to us! Love the ambiance and watching the dolphins in the morning - going to the coffee shop (which is the best in VA BCH area) can't beat it! Bob and the staff are great - the maids are so friendly and really clean well...So, I don't know why people complain about such a great deal at the Belvedere...Looking forward to our visit once again this August!!!
This hotel has fabulous staff, service and a really, really good coffee shop. It is dated but clean and comfortable. I have stayed @ other hotels that are twice the price and not half as enjoyable to stay at. Great balconies, view of the ocean and free bikes to use on the boardwalk. I just hope this family keeps this gem and it's loyal following of guests for many years to come.
Yes the Belvedere does not look as fancy or as modern as its neighbors but that is the only thing that might turn someone off to this hotel. The staff was awesome and after a week we got to know them on a first name basis. The rooms were neat and clean. The bathrooms could be bigger, though. Everyroom on the oceanfront, easy to get around, no complicated parking. I loved it! I can't wait to take my family back and stay again.
