Great Hotel, Just Hard To Get There
First thing I noticed when driving here is that it's on a short, dead end street that's hard to get onto. Also, you can't get into the parking lot from the front entrance, you have to drive back around and onto the side.
Once you get inside, the main lobby is beautiful and most of the staff are friendly and helpful. The others, I didn't really enjoy having to deal with them. This was my first hotel stay in Europe so I don't have a great deal to compare it to but I must say that I would have expected a Crowne Plaza to have a higher standard when it comes to customer service.
Above the main lobby, there's a dining and banquet floor that's really beautiful. I went through it usually on my way to the parking lot and whenever I went to the restaurant for dinner or breakfast. I only ate there twice but it was very good. The breakfast especially had a very wide selection of typical morning fare and the staff kept it well stocked.
The elevators were very fast and efficient but for some reason, the whole time I was there I found the hallways to be unbearably hot. After a few days, you'd brace yourself before the elevator doors opened because you knew it was going to be oppressively hot and it'd hit you in the face the moment the doors opened.
The rooms, wow, I can't say enough about the rooms. They were unbelievably small and way too crowded with furniture. The furniture was nice, don't get me wrong, there was just too much of it. For instance, they had a folding luggage stand but there wasn't any place to put it. I really wish that there were at least another 60-100 square feet of floor space.
I've written about this before and so here it goes again. I don't know why the more expensive hotels, nearly always charge for poor quality internet access. I find this so frustrating since I get better internet service from the hostels I've visited. This property fell in line with too many other high end locations. I paid sixty pounds for one full week of internet access that wasn't very reliable. Oh well.
Overall, once you find the place and get settled, it's acceptable. It's quiet, well located for walking to many different locations in and arround Nottingham and the staff does a great job of cleaning the rooms every day. I'd go back, just because I've gotten to know the area well enough from walking around the place every day for over a week.
