Not sure why so many negative comments
By nc d, 9/8/10
I stayed there from 7/12 through 7/16 with my wife and sister-in-law while my father-in-law had surgery at DMC. We were in the main building next to the hospital parking deck. The room and hotel were average, the service folk were acceptable and the price and location were perfect. It was nothing fancy, but it wasn't a dump either. During our stay there was painting and renovation going on, but it didn't bother us. On the day we checked out there were a ton of new mattresses being delivered. My wife stayed an additional two nights in mid-August for one of her Dad's follow-ups. She said renovations were continuing and she still had a decent experience. This is not a bad place to stay for the money. However, I would steer folk away from the Tower, which is behind the main building. The access to that building at night is very dark.

Where were these pictures taken?
By toastherr, 2/7/09
I've never stayed here, I mean, for all I know, they hide an ocean out back...but really, Durham has no ocean, nor does this hotel have Spanish-style rooms. You can go to their website and see the actual hotel images. I have no idea where the pictures posted here came from.

BEWARE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/2/08
We decided to stay at the place because of the closeness to the VA hospital, NEVER AGAIN.. The room we were given was in the "tower building", which is across the street from the main building. 1st off, the whole building stunk, our room smelled of cigarette smoke, and the room was so small 2 people could not move in the room at the same time. The staff acted like they could care less. Once you are checked in too bad if you have a problem. I would stay anywhere but this place.

Don't stay here
By Doris, 10/16/07
The lady that took our reservation and then was there (and remembered me) when we checked in ... she was the only good part of this experience. The room had a bug, and the front desk couldn't have cared less. It is close to Duke Hospital (we walked everyday, felt very safe). But we moved next door to University Inn...MUCH happier. Less money, free breakfast, bigger rooms, no bugs.

speak up
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/16/07
desk clerks should speak up. Who do they think is listening? Desk clerk was afraid to be heard by camera. We were promised a late check, but were charged full price. Not happy. You asked.

I left after two days
By Sarah, 8/24/06
The location was fabulous; I was able to walk to my interview at the hospital. All of the staff I encountered were very nice. However, those were about the only good parts. First, it smelled funny. Most of the smell was in the hallway on the floor I was staying on, but my room smelled a little strange as well. Second, instead of a king, I was put in a room with two doubles, I didn't bring this to their attention, however. I ended up leaving and going to another hotel after two days because the bed was so uncomfortable I was waking up with back and hip pain. Don't bet too much on the cafe in the restaurant-think lower quality than Denny's with higher prices-the price of convenience I guess. They are the closest hotel to Duke Hospital, as they advertise, but I would stay elsewhere.

Nice rooms Great location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/4/06
Quite location near Duke Hospital. They have a little coffee shop with food so you don't have to go searching for places in al the Durham traffic. They also have a van that took us out to eat one evening

Glad I chose Brookwood
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/11/05
I just spent 2 1/2 weeks at the Brookwood while my Dad was in Duke Hospital. It was so easy to get to and from the hospital at all hours of the day and night. I was so happy that I didn't have to deal with the parking deck. The shuttle van was very convenient but I didn't use it very often. I felt comfortable walking to and from the hospital, even late at night. The staff was friendly and accomodating. My room was clean and quiet. It wouldn't be my first choice for a vacation, but it was a great choice for a lengthy medical visit.

Location Location Location - of the room !
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/4/05
The hotel room was adjacent to an ice-vending machine. That was making so much noise that we couldn't sleep properly both the nights. Any request to the front desk was met with a standard reply - "This is a pre-paid reserved room and we cannot provide with an alternate choice" Other then that the location of the hotel was good. Helped us do our tourist activity. Arvind
