Golden Eagle Resort, Stowe

My husband and I stayed at the Golden Eagle for just one night as a mini-anniversary trip. I wish we'd chosen to stay longer though. We had a really cute suite- little living room and kitchenette area, with a real, working wood stove (it was too warm to use it as we went in the beginning of September), and decent sized bedroom with a big, beautiful, comfortable king sized bed. I was really happy with the bed. There were a few layers of bedding on it, which was good because the night started out warm and cooled off a bit. There was also an amazing amount of pillows, all very smooshy and comfortable. The tvs in the room were older, but funtional, and we weren't there to watch tv, so it wasn't important. The wallpaper (and wood stove, and couch) were dated- but everything was clean and well maintained. It was quaint, and actually a LOT of fun to stay there. And the facilities were great. The room wasn't ready when my husband and I arrived (that was the one drawback of the place), so we sat in the lounge area and enjoyed free coffee and cookies and played chinese checkers. It was a hoot. The gentleman at the front desk was quite apologetic about the room not being ready (but really, we only had to wait 15 minutes or so, and I wasn't that concerned), and offered us good suggestions for dinner. We ended up at the seafood place across the street- a bit pricey, but good quality food and they were super polite. We walked around the resort in the evening, and enjoyed the jaccuzi- which was quite hot, and huge, and very bubbly and extremely relaxing, and then went outside to one of the pools. There were 2 outdoor (heated!) pools, and 1 indoor pool. The pool we went in was great- it was really big, it was a great temperature (and quite cooling after the jaccuzi), and because it was 9pm, we had it to ourselves. It was really enjoyable. In the morning we went to the little restaurant on the hotel property, which serves breakfast. Most people expect a continental breakfast from a hotel, but this was a whole lot more than I'd expected! They had a really great menu (just breakfast, but what breakfasts they had! Waffles, omlettes, different egg dishes... even steak and eggs), and you could pick from the breakfast platters, or $10 worth from the a la carte menu- and that was included with the room cost. Wow. My husband had waffles with strawberries and syrup and bacon, and I enjoyed a cheese omlette, homefries, and ham. It was a great, filling breakfast, and the staff in the restaurant was VERY nice. Overall, it was a great stay. I wish we'd stayed longer to enjoy the facilities more- there were hiking trails, ponds to fish in, tennis court, horseshoes, and a really neat play area (with a pirate ship!) for the kids. It was a great value, really cute, and the staff was incredibly nice and friendly. I can't wait to go again next year!

My husband and I stayed here for work reasons for about a week last month. We didn't know how long we were staying so every day we checked out and had to check in to another room when we found out we were to stay another day. Bad for us, but great for a review because we saw 6 different rooms! In most rooms there were signs of wear and tear, but the rooms are very clean. The beds don't have those awful hotel comforters, most have beautiful quilts on the beds and plenty of extra blankets and pillows. The mattresses were really comfortable. I thought the water pressure was bad, but I have thick hair. My bald husband didn't mind it. :) We used the pool, sauna, and hot tub every day. Both are in great condition and are really fun. However there is a fitness part of the building and people can get memberships. So there are locker rooms and people who pay to work out there. It took away from our relaxation a little bit. I will second the comment of another poster and say the hot tub is SOOOOO hot!!! We have a hot tub at home and are used to the heat, but oh my goodness was this hot! To be honest, we didn't pay for our room because we were there on business and the company paid, but we thought the prices for the rooms were great considering what the property was like. So many other hotels in the area are overpriced. The hotel also has a shuttle going to the local mountains, but we didn't take advantage of that. The wireless was spotty, but overall was good. The rooms differ a lot so you might want to call to ask about what's in your room before you go. We stayed in a room with a whirlpool tub which was nice. Another had a towel warmer which was perfect for drying our bathing suits. Our last night we had a room with a kitchenette and fireplace. It was dated, but really nice for the age of everything. I know some rooms have real fireplaces, ours was gas powered by a switch. It was still romantic. All rooms have refrigerators. I wish they had microwaves, I wanted popcorn the whole time. Stowe is a great town for skiers and anyone who wants to get away. Don't be surprised if you're from a bigger city and go out for food at 9pm and can't find anything open. There don't seem to be any night owls in Stowe. Pie in the Sky pizza is across the street. The pizzas were very good, delicious ingredients. McCarthy's across the street is a great place for breakfast or lunch. You'll have to travel quite a ways if you want to find any fast food or even a good supermarket. We took the time to go to the Ben & Jerry's factory which was so much fun! Definitely worth the afternoon and $3 admission fee. Overall we had a great time at the Golden Eagle and for our own winter vacation, we would go back again. Happy travels!

Very cozy, love the fireplaces, what a breakfast just fantastic, Area dinning is out of this world! Lots to do at the resort and around town any time of the year, the scenery is breathtaken!!!

Great breakfast with attentive help-was there in late fall, still able to use the playground and facilities. Would recommend to anyone looking for a great priced resort that is within walking distance of downtown as well as restaurants, would stay again perhaps next in the spring

Love the fact that it's "children" friendly without being too over the top (ie..still quiet)! Indoor pool, outdoor pool, gameroom, outside play area, fishing! Super breakfasts right there...on the spot ~ with other fantastic restaurants nearby! We love it!

I stayed here with my son some time ago, but always remember it fondly. It's very close to the slopes and the the staff could not have been nicer. We booked at the last minute and were able to get an upper level room. Breakfast was superb. It was a bit of a hike to get to the dining room, but that just worked up our appetites! Our bathroom was very, very small, but clean and well-stocked with towels and soap. The fridge and microwave came in very handy. We didn't use the pool or the pond for skating, but I noted those would be good options for non-skiing travelers and children. We've stayed several places in Stowe and the Golden Eagle may seem a little pricey to those not familiar with the area, is definitely worth it! Do not go cheap in Stowe--you'll regret it.

This property is slightly sprawling, on a light- moderately trafficked road, close to the downtown of Stowe. Our stay was in one of the two bedroom apartments across the road from the main property. Unlike other apartment accomodations in previous travels(in both the US & abroad), this did include breakfast in the room rate, a nice plus. The breakfast is excellent, service one morning was a little slow, when it got very busy though. Stowe has a great five mile recreation path, which was ~20 yards behind our apartment, and it appears to be very popular, for good reason. There is nothing very fancy about the place, but for a few nights, traveling as a family, it met our needs.
