Not what it used to be

My wife and family had been booking with the Charlroy for years so we decided to stay with them. My wife, 8 month old son and I stayed for one night on Father's Day. From booking earlier in the week to the beginning of the first night, everything started well. After the boardwalk we came back to the room to a clogged sink and our son happened to find a small piece of glass in the sheets. We took it from his hand and saw no other dangers so decided to wait until the desk was manned in the morning to notify them. During the night our son woke up at 330, we gave him a bottle, put him down and while we were still awake heard some rustling around and what sounded like glass break. There were three young men taking a small red toolbox and the small pieces of metal sprayed out and they also stole two fire extinguishers. Obviously not the fault of the Charlroy. Called the police, told them what we saw, and watched the sunrise because we weren't going to sleep after that. When we got back the desk was manned and we told the one female employee about everything. We left for the beach and came back to the owner on the staircase ,which was next to our room, and the owner's son fishing out what turned out to be beer bottle caps. Again, I don't blame the bottle caps being there on the Charlroy. The owner, without argument, comped our late check out fee due to the glass, son walked out of the room stating what he found, and they all got into a car. Before they left we noticed the sink filthy and a not stating to not use the sink due to chemicals. I ran out, got the son and asked what the sign was about. He proudly said he used "sulfuric acid" to try do dissolve the blockage, but everything is ok, "just take off the sign." I used a cup to try to flush whatever was in the sink down, didn't work. On the way out we asked a young man if he could clean the sink. He said he would clean it right away. We left for lunch on the boardwalk and some pool time at the Charlroy pool. I walked to the desk told the female employee and she immediately walked into a closet, got some supplies and cleaned the sink. Normally I would just do it myself, but I don't like getting acid residue on my hands. We thanked her and took a quick nap. We woke up, gathered our things and started to check out. We asked to speak to the owner/manager to make a complaint about possible chemicals in a room with an infant. The son came out and we complained to him. He began to say the cleanup wasn't his job and made it seem that it was common that the young man doesn’t follow through with his duties. He printed the bill and began to move, we asked why he wouldn't compensated. He said he had to talk to his mother about it, walked into a room for a while, came out and said what would you want me to do? We said comp in some way, so he gave us a $20 refund because he had already charged the card. So to recap, the one female employee was excellent, the owner was very courteous, the one young man doesn’t follow through, and the son was unprofesional and immature for his position.
