Good Job Charlroy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/19/11
This is simply a delightful place. Ideal for a family, couple, or single person. I found it to be clean and well managed. A nice little breakfast was served off season. The location is the best. I have read some of the reviews and have to wonder if they came from the competition in the area.

They've Lost a Customer Credit Card Theft Beware!
By jersey, 9/21/10
We have stayed at Charlroy for years, but NEVER again! On return from this vacation, we were contacted by Barnes & Noble about an internet credit card purchase that they figured to be fraudulent. Upon checking with bank, we found out our card had been used over internet for purchases from day we checked in until day we left just using number, expiration date & security code which people get by handing them the card. Since we had not used card for several weeks, nor while we were on vacation, except for check-in, the bank stated this happened during check-in. I notified Cheryl, the owner/manager, immediately that night, who though apologetic, offered me no assistance and has not contacted me since. She then proceeded in charging the same credit card the very next day for the full amount of stay as well as late check out! I explained to her that a young girl checked us in and had a friend sitting with her using a laptop. So we were not greeted owner/manager or her son who we usually deal with. However, management needs to take responsibility for their employees and for their business. In addition, the room was never properly swept and had sand in every room with the bathroom being the worse. The motel seems to have gone down hill on their "family" environment with much more riff-raff being evident then in the past. It's sad that the motel has chosen not to handle this situation or communicate. The truth is they don't care about their customers.

Not what it used to be
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/23/10
My wife and family had been booking with the Charlroy for years so we decided to stay with them. My wife, 8 month old son and I stayed for one night on Father's Day. From booking earlier in the week to the beginning of the first night, everything started well. After the boardwalk we came back to the room to a clogged sink and our son happened to find a small piece of glass in the sheets. We took it from his hand and saw no other dangers so decided to wait until the desk was manned in the morning to notify them. During the night our son woke up at 330, we gave him a bottle, put him down and while we were still awake heard some rustling around and what sounded like glass break. There were three young men taking a small red toolbox and the small pieces of metal sprayed out and they also stole two fire extinguishers. Obviously not the fault of the Charlroy. Called the police, told them what we saw, and watched the sunrise because we weren't going to sleep after that. When we got back the desk was manned and we told the one female employee about everything. We left for the beach and came back to the owner on the staircase ,which was next to our room, and the owner's son fishing out what turned out to be beer bottle caps. Again, I don't blame the bottle caps being there on the Charlroy. The owner, without argument, comped our late check out fee due to the glass, son walked out of the room stating what he found, and they all got into a car. Before they left we noticed the sink filthy and a not stating to not use the sink due to chemicals. I ran out, got the son and asked what the sign was about. He proudly said he used "sulfuric acid" to try do dissolve the blockage, but everything is ok, "just take off the sign." I used a cup to try to flush whatever was in the sink down, didn't work. On the way out we asked a young man if he could clean the sink. He said he would clean it right away. We left for lunch on the boardwalk and some pool time at the Charlroy pool. I walked to the desk told the female employee and she immediately walked into a closet, got some supplies and cleaned the sink. Normally I would just do it myself, but I don't like getting acid residue on my hands. We thanked her and took a quick nap. We woke up, gathered our things and started to check out. We asked to speak to the owner/manager to make a complaint about possible chemicals in a room with an infant. The son came out and we complained to him. He began to say the cleanup wasn't his job and made it seem that it was common that the young man doesn’t follow through with his duties. He printed the bill and began to move, we asked why he wouldn't compensated. He said he had to talk to his mother about it, walked into a room for a while, came out and said what would you want me to do? We said comp in some way, so he gave us a $20 refund because he had already charged the card. So to recap, the one female employee was excellent, the owner was very courteous, the one young man doesn’t follow through, and the son was unprofesional and immature for his position.

Management Response to "Don't Do It"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/25/09
It was interesting that on the very day we received this e-mail, we checked in a family who went to several establishments before ours and were not pleased at all with them (especially due to cleanliness). However, when they came to our motel, we showed them two rooms and they stayed because we were so clean compared to the others. This review used some very bold words to describe us, but where are the details supporting these words? Also, this guest mentioned about a plumbing problem. Those problems, unfortunately, do happen in real life, and not just in motels. We would like to ask this guest personally if he/she never had any plumbing problems in his/her own residence. We would be very surprised to find out if that was the case. If we are notified about a problem, we see that it is taken care of as soon as possible. We hope whoever reads this review will have an open mind. We have regulars who have been coming here for 40 + years.

Management Response to "Go Somewhere Else"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/30/09
We found it interesting that this guest had a negative impression of the stenciling and the wicker furniture because we cannot count how many positive responses we have received regarding the art stenciling and the furniture. Perhaps this person does not prefer wicker, but it should not be described as being cheap at our motel. The artist who did the stenciling worked very hard, and so many of our guests love it. Regarding the arrests--yes, that does occur sometimes here, but not all the time, not OUR guests, and arrests happen all over the state, not just in Seaside Park in front of the Charlroy. We hope future readers of this review will be open-minded and will come here for your lodging.

The place is a renovated dump
By Georgie, 9/26/08
The location is about the only thing going for this place. Service at best is mediocre. More often then not there is no one at the front desk. The maids don't speak english, but you can bet they have an envelope in very room asking for tips. Room cleanliness is not a forte with this place. The rooms have supposedly undergone renovation. That is a joke. Some minor work in tiling by the door doesn't make the room renovated in my book. No computer hookups 15 (or less) channels on their cable TV's. The furniture and decor of the rooms are late 60's or early 70's and mostly in a dilapadated state. No microwave ovens, coffeemakers etc. These are things that I have come to expect in a room that I'm paying a $160.00 a night for. This place has no ammenities for their guests. The hot water situation has been much discussed by many other negative reviews of this place. I would not recommend this place.

The Best and The Worst
By Dot, 8/23/08
We always stay at the Charlroy. Last year we tried a different place and it was not better. I do not know any places in Seaside that resemble the worst Mariott. The service is not great. The rooms and the pool were just renovated in 2008. We like the location and the fact that they do not allow kids under 18 without an adult, so it is quiet. We also stayed at a place two doors down and it was really bad. So, we just go to the Charlroy, at least we know what we are getting.

TERRIBLE--Beware!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/5/08
The Charlroy Motel has horrific customer service. I have frequented their establishment several times and I am floored at their lack of customer care. I reserved 2 rooms for three nights well over one month in advance. At that time I told the clerk that I would be reserving the second room for guests as I was staying in the other room with my spouse and 2 children. My guest checked out one day early. Our company wanted to pay for the 2 nights that they stayed as a friendly gesture, so the clerk changed the room into our company's name so that they could charge their credit card for the 2 nights. They called us to confirm that our company was leaving but never told us that they would be renting our room out. We had another friend on their way to occupy the room that evening and much to our surprise, when we arrived back at the hotel there was another family occupying the room. The hotel had switched the room back into our name so that they could enforce their early check-out policy on us and when we asked for another room or a refund the manager slammed the office door in my face and was mumbling things under her breath as I spoke with the clerk that made the change. I never raised my voice and I felt as if I was being bullied. I had to get my husband, at which time the manager finally calmed herself in the presence of someone not as small as me. She also jumped up and down in the lobby like a child and started to mumble about how I shouldn't be upsetting her so. I have never felt so insignificant after spending over $1200 to stay in a hotel for 3 nights in a less than mediocre establishment. Also, know that if you stay here you should not attempt to take a shower before dinner, and after going to the beach for the day, as they run out of hot water around this time of day. I waited over an hour to take a shower and it was still freezing. However, the people that frequent this hotel are nice and the new pool is attractive--but I don't think that those 2 things are enough to void the other vital components that are lacking.
