Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation, Koloa

We spent 10 days at Kiahuna Plantation Unit 436. The unit served our purpose fine and Kiahuna Plantation is lovely. What was *not okay* was the location and the traffic noise. Unit 436 is about 40 ft from the main Poipu Road. Trucks grinding gears and general traffic began at 5:30 or 6:00 am and continued late into the night. This was definitely not relaxing. The owners have placed a bedside white 'noise reducer' - which is virtually useless. We had been looking forward to this vacation for some months. When we inquired about the rental, I indicated we were looking for a *quiet* place (which this unit is definitely not!). When we arrived at about 8:00 pm from our trip, the sounds from the roadway made it seem as if traffic was going right through the apartment. And then waking up to traffic at 5:30 am. We live in Boston - and our neighborhood is exceedingly quiet compared to this location. What a shame - for the expense and precious vacation time. I asked the owners for a comment, but they did not reply. Others in the room guest book have also commented about the noise.

Love the place!! Peaceful, great views of the ocean.We will be there this July for our seventh trip!!

We stayed in Kiahuna 436 at the Outrigger February 28th until March 5th. and we couldn't have been more impressed with the condo and the service we received. Beautiful gardens surround the units no matter which one you are in and provide a great, short walk to the beach (5 minutes from unit 436). We read a few bad reviews for Outrigger before we went to Kauai but those reviews seem inappropriate. We read complaints of noise from the highway and roosters --- well our condo was one of the closest to the road and we never noticed it. There are roosters around the property but not any more than you will find throughout the rest of the island. We enjoyed the roosters, and thought it funny that the owners even had a rooster themed mix CD for their guests. The roosters are just part of the ambience of the island, we really enjoyed them. We rented directly through the owners and they were so easy to work with. They gave us all sorts of ideas for things to do, they were so nice and made the experience even better. Some of the things they recommended included: * Sitting outside and dining on Kalua pork nachos at the Sheraton next door during the sunset! * Morning walks along the beach and checking out the monk seals basking in the morning sun. * The owners told us all the best places to go snorkeling and we really enjoyed the amazing experience of swimming with giant sea turtles. The owners had chairs, ice chests, umbrellas, etc. in the closet for us to use, so we enjoyed getting around the island and checking out some of the other amazing beaches. The Kiahuna grounds are amazing, especially the orchid and succulent garden. Every acre was stunning and beautifully maintained. The Kiahuna beach shack provides towels, chairs and will book whatever activities you desire. We tried surfing lessons and we had a great time. They teach you right at the Kiahuna beach, it couldn’t have been any more convenient. Our only complaint was that we wished the pool and tennis courts were closer to the beach – they are a 5 minute walk from condo 436 – just across the road. They pool was really great and we really enjoyed our Blue Hawaii’s during happy hour! We look forward to returning to Kauai and staying in condo 436 again!

The room was quiet and clean. The front of the room was all sliding door/window and opened onto a patio. From the patio we had a nice view of the ocean. The grounds were like a lush garden and the staff was very helpful and friendly. We would definately go back!
