Outstanding dining experience
By Sunniecam, 12/18/09
Took my friend there for her birthday. Was not sure what to expect, but the atmosphere was very pleasant. Had duck and a rose wine for dinner. Nothing was out of place. The food was most excellent and the service was outstanding. We will definitely go there again.

Very over-priced
By Charlie, 08/13/08
We stayed in the large suite (hot tub, kitchen, parlor) on the second floor of the Victorian with a nice view through filthy windows overlooking the harbor. Please don’t call this a bed and breakfast, for the “two course” breakfast was nothing but a couple of eggs with chopped mushrooms thrown in. (No options) There was a meager selection of banana bread and muffins with coffee. No self-respecting B&B would embarrass itself by offering this skimpy fare. Our room was huge and nicely furnished. Plenty of room for a California king bed, but it contained just an uncomfortable queen. Did I mention the filthy windows covered with paint overspray. Overall: very over-priced

Great getaway
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/10/07
I have stayed here twice and have had a great experience both times. The rooms are large and very clean, the decor is new, the beds are comfortable and we love the turn down service. The location is perfect and the food is excellent.I highly recommend this Inn

A bit of sunshine in cloudy Humboldt
By Justin, 01/31/07
I recently stayed at the Carter House Inn, and had a quiet, but very lovely stay. After driving all day, arriving in time for wine and hors d'oeuvres was very welcoming. From there, we dined in the amazing Restaurant 301 and had our heads float away with the wine they suggested for us. Our room was warm and cozy with a fireplace. Breakfast in the morning was sinfully sweet with an array of pastries, but also fruit and granola. There is no other place like this in Eureka! If you are planning to visit the beautiful North Coast stay here.

One of the most relaxing vacations we've had...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/24/07
The cottage we stayed in was not only private but beautiful and serene. We enjoyed spending quiet time inside at night sampling the wine we purchased at the hotel's wine shop while during the day we sunned on the private deck. It was so nice to be away from the crowds of Mendocino and Napa...and enjoy the beauty of the Northcoast. The staff were always trying to go out of their way to please us and don't miss the fantastic dinner at the 301 Restaurant- it was incredible!

Noisey
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/22/06
The overall ambiance and service was quite remarkable. We stayed in the entire top floor of the Victorian across the street from the main hotel. It was beautifully furnished and it showed a lot of attention to detail. There were only two draw backs to our returning to the hotel. The first was the traffic noise from such close proximetry to Hwy 101. It really was noisey and I didn't sleep well. The second draw back were the homeless people who seemed to wander and congregate in this area of town. My two teenagers didn't feel safe walking 2 blocks at night to get pick up a pizza!

Really,.... not my place!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/04/06
Who has written these other reviews, the owners? It is a very clean!!! The service and Location are Not spectacular! The price isn't to bad if you were staying in L.A or N.Y.C, but for Northern Cal, it's a bit much. I loved the meal my husband and I had there, but the suite we had gotten was pretty plain.

Ok expereince
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/21/05
Beautiful Inn!!!! I've stayed a number of times. I love the rooms the meals, and of course the wine list. The only thing I do not like about the experience at the Carter House Inns is the hotel service. There is one young man in paticular who that will practically beg you for a tip when he helps you to your room. The management is also very unprofessional. It's hard to talk to and smile at a unhappy, rude older woman, who seems to not know about being friendly. All in all once the the staff is out of sight It's a relaxing enjoyable place to stay.

You wouldn't believe what you get.
By AquilesPablo, 09/14/05
We have stayed there a couple of times and each time it get's better. Tea time is great. They have an appetiser hour with wine. The rooms have firel places. We stayed in a large suite with a hot tub. You've got to try it to believe it.

Elegance is Waiting for You
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/23/05
If you are desiring an elegant evening dining in the gourmet restaurant of the inn or just want to relax in luxury of your exquisit room, then this is the place for you. The staff is more than professional and each guest is treated as royalty. The Inn, in its classic architecture, is nesteled in the quaint part of Eureka: Old Town which is near the bay and is backdropped by the Redwoods of California. If you feel the need to venture out of the inn, you can visit the local shops with fine arts and unique gifts or unwind with a massage and Italian shower in the day spa. The Inn is perfect for every occasion and is worth every penny. For one brief moment you will forget all your troubles and truely just breath in life as if it were a perfect world.
