Perfect place to stay in Grand Lake
By Steve, 10/28/09
I loved the rustic feel of the rooms while they still had all of the amenities I needed. The managers were very friendly and catered too all of my needs. The hot tub and sauna were great and so was the pool area. A great place to stay if you plan on doing some hiking or enjoying the lake. I highly recommend this place, we've stayed at many places in Grand Lake and this is our favorite.

Not that great
By Denver, 08/14/09
The fridge did not keep things cold and the freezer did not work. The water pressure in the shower was slow and took a few minutes to get warm. The mattress feel like it was old and keep slipping off the end. There were a limited number of glass and cups in the room. It was OK for a one night stay if your were just the two of you, any more and it was very crowded. The playground area needs to replace or repaired and fence around the area would be nice, it is not that far from the road. The view of the mountains and the lake were blocked by the trees across the road.

An enjoyable stay!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/03/09
Our rooms at the Lodge were clean and well maintained. The kitchenette served us well as we had light meals, saving costs. The owners were friendly and helpful. The hot tub was wonderful! We would definitely go back again.

What a quaint place to stay.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/06/09
I loved the fact that this place is so quiet. The owners take pride in maintaining a serene environment. Other than the occasional family reunion this is a peaceful motel.

Loved it!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/06/09
There was nothing to dislike about the Black Bear Lodge. The Lodge had a very comfortable warm friendy feeling. It was nothing like I had expected we were greated at the door,We had the feeling we knew the owners, they had made us feel so welcome. We were given a tour of the Lodge. The room in which we stayed was beautiful, and very clean. It was very romantic get away for my husband and myself. We will defently return.

avoid-pictures are deceiving!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/28/07
what a disappointment!! We had a small family reunion. Our family members rented 3/4 of the motel for 3 and some for 4 days. Yet even with all of that business (and possiblility of future business)--the manager was rude, snide and crude. He was extrememly snappy about his precious ice-ever time any one came in for ice he was sure say "not for your personal ice chest", he reminded everyone, everytime. The pictures I found on line are extremly deceiving-the lodge is pictured as if big enough for a small group of guest to hang around the fire--wrong! Usually the manager is camped out in front of fireplace and that's all the room there is. ALSO-no pets allowed--except a hairy dog of the managers. Well, I have no problem with that except for the huge mounds of dog pooo all over the place--On your way to the pool, picnic tables, etc. He has huge trash cans outside of every room. He ordered us to take that can out back to the dumpster--(no way). The lighting in the rooms were awful and they were not very clean. The pool was overly clorined and very very messy around the pool area. Chicken wire is stapled to the skimpy wood fence to protect young ones from falling in. The picnic area was covered with brown grass and huge weeds, some having stickers. Then to top it all off, the lodge is facing the lake-but between the lodge and the lake is a highway, that is so noisy!! The traffic was non stop on Friday. Then on the other side of the highway was several junky businesses and if you look just right...you can see a little bit of the lake. This place was over priced for the quality of the hotel. I am used to clean and better quality - even when I rent something rustic.
