Will never go there again!
Rooms did not look like internet photos.
Playground was overgrown with weeds.
There were coffee can ashtrays outside next to the rail fulll of nasty cigs.
Poorly lit parking.
Strange looking people would pull into the hotel, get out, go to a room, then leave again...did not feel safe.
Surrounded by other cheesy looking 1950,60,70 style hotels.
Pool towels left out in an open basket for the two days we stayed there..gross.
Kitchen was not fully stocked at all...had to ask for everything.
My kids ended up getting sick, we asked if we could leave and they said their cancellation policy is 5 days prior...my kids were puking and they still charged us for another night and credited us for one. Puking children...700 miles from home, we just wanted to pay for the night we stayed and head home, but no, just another way to seep more money out of you.
Bathroom mirrors are tiled mirrors and no matter how you stood, you could never see your whole face without moving up or down a million times.
Bathroom shower was lovely, until the actual cover came off the shower nozzle and exposed part of the wall on the inside...prayed to God that no one was watching like Norman Bates or something.
Lights inside the hotel room wouldn't turn on...at first, after about 6-8 flickers the lights finally came on, did that every time we turned the lights on.
A/C unit was SO loud and rattled horribly, at dusk, you could see specks of light surrounding the unit, so it wasn't sealed correctly.
Couldn't figure out why there were clothespins holding the curtains closed, so we pulled them apart and discovered that our window had a huge crack running the length of the opening.
The sheets/blankets/curtains did not match...I felt like I was in a flea market home decor section.
The BBQ station consisted of 4 grills that were covered in yucky stuff next to a picnic table on the pavement where cars literally drove past to park...
Overall, we only stayed to sleep and b/c the owners refused to credit our account so we could just go home. We NEVER went outside unless it was to leave. The only working part of their welcome sign was the word vacancy...other than that, hope you don't miss your turn into the parking lot, you won't know you're there. Overall, this has taught me a lesson on what 'not to do' when going on vacation. MelHaven Lodge was our "Hell-Haven" for two nights. Although the inside of the room was 'clean' yet poorly mismatched and understocked, everything else about it spells disaster. I am convinced that the reviews I read about this place were falsely represented. We will never stay here again, and will definitely tell people to avoid the Colorado Avenue hotels altogether. We definitely felt as though we were mislead and welcomed to something absolutely horrible. This was our first family vacation and it won't be our last...however, we definitely know now what to watch out for. Beware of Mel-Haven Lodge...check other venues...we called various hotels after this ordeal around the same area and at least 6-8 other hotels were $30-45 cheaper. We are glad to be home, glad to have seen Pikes peak and the Royal Gorge, and we are exceptionally glad to never step within eyesight of the Mel Haven Lodge ever again. Good luck to all of you who are traveling to CO Springs...it is beautiful! Just make sure you stay clear of Mel Haven lodge and tell the people you want to see the rooms before you buy! Also, if looking online, like I did, don't be a victim, make sure you can cancel at a reasonable time...5 days prior is pretty darn ridiculous and only proves that MelHaven Lodge wants to draw you in and lock you and your wallet up. Beware..don't be a victim!
