Mariner Motel, Silver Bay

I've never been kicked out of a motel upon check-in! Or any other time for that matter. The owner started freaking out and tearing up our paperwork and said "You people find somewhere else and leave". I will NEVER go back there.

The owner was rude to me when asked the rates of a room for one night. I quickly decided it was not going to be a good place to rest and left.

We got kicked out during our registration.He was being overly insistent about us paying him immediately,he was telling us "we cost him thousands of dollars and waste his time", if we don't pay NOW. So, I had no problem with that, but we wanted to look and check the rooms out for bedbugs first. So, I just asked him "your rooms don't have bedbugs do they". He got really weird and mad, ripped up our paperwork, took the keys, and told us to "get out, you insult me like that you people, you go find somewhere else". Then he turned the entire lights out as we left. That guy is a jerk. We've stopped there once before years ago, and he was weird then too. Thought we'd give him another try, but I'll sleep in my truck before I go there again. He's scary weird!!! How he is AAA approved is beyond me. I plan on reporting him though to AAA. Course, he probably just stole a sign and put it up.

Our group of 18 just stayed at the Mariner this past weekend. We all agreed we would stay here again! The rooms are spacious and clean. Customer service was remarkable bringing us a larger garbage bin, insulated ice buckets and hair dryer upon request. The atmosphere is that of an earlier time, but in no way is this place run down. And, shame on the person criticizing towels for curtains! This was only in the bathroom and was very popular back in the day. As far as the complaints of the eldery gentleman being rude or cranky....not so with our group. We enjoyed chatting with him about gardening, motorcycles, and preparing vegtables. He is short and to the point on the phone, but you get what you give in life, also true with people! We look forward to visiting here again. Also, if you stay, he has BBQ grills you can use upon request. Great Place!

Attempted to get information about the motel such as availability/amenities/cost and the person became very upset/verbally abusive and hung up on me. This place was very nice a few years ago but there is no way I would recommend anyone staying here now.

I will NEVER rent from this idiot again!! We reserved 4 rooms for 2 nights on a credit card. We were in town for a funeral, and after a LONG drive we got rooms that were barely clean, dated, musty smelling, no a/c, no ice makers, towels for curtains and small outdated televisions. I dont expect the host to be cheerleader like...but for the love of god if you are a CUSTOMER SERVICE driven business...smile!!! After we left, we realized there was some prescription medication left in one of the rooms. We called to check and got a verbal bashing from a borken english speaking tyrant!! He accused us of not paying for the room, trashing the room, not leaving a "dime" for a tip (for whom!?!), and called us all pigs, then told me to "f**k off" and hung up on me!! If you want a cheap place with no extra ANYTHING, that is right off the highway...great...but I would rather stay in my car then to EVER rent a room from this guy. Drive farther and pay more and receive your moneys worth.

Okay, so the owner is a little gruff, lacks some social graces but certainly isn't mean. The room was very clean and in great working order. The price was perfect and we will definitely come back if we need a place in Silver Bay. Also, if you want a great pizza head up the hill to Jimmy's - you won't be disappointed at all.

We had a Great Stay at the Mariner Motel, we wanted to snowmobile over Pres weekend and got two rooms last minute. The rooms were clean, shower was excellent! We were able to get right on the trail from behind the motel and gas station with in a block. The room was perfectly priced and the humor and personality of the owner was fun. He even shared his fishing accomplishments with my husband, our stay was perfect and the price was right! THANKS the trails were in good condition and we had fun!

The room was clean, the bed comfortable and the motel was quiet. I was on an "unstructured" eight day trip with no reservations. The only plan was to stay in the old fashioned motor courts. No chain hotels. I stayed two nights. The price certainly acceptable. I would stay again if in the area.

We enjoyed our visit with the long-time owner, originally from Poland. We conversed about food, and he remarked to my friend, a Mexicano, about enjoying menudo, a Mexican soup.. The room was warm and comfortable for a winter night. It was clean and inexpensive. We were there to sleep, relax and enjoy a quiet no frills night, we got it.. I won't hesitate to return, in fact plan to this week-end..
