Econo Lodge Kalkaska, Kalkaska

This place should have their Econo Lodge name revoked. We were greeted in a very unprofessional manner (not given room location, not given check-out time, etc.). We went to the room and the key didn't work. We then went to the desk, where the key was reactivated...then one out of the two keys worked. The entire hotel smelled like ethnic food. We had to deodorize our entire room to even make the smell tolerable. The bathroom was gross (stains on the toilet), the shower made the floor flood when turned on. The pillows were so uncomfortable I could not even use them. The continental breakfast was alright - the only sort of positive thing about the stay, even though it was too gross at the hotel so we ate it in our car. I could not wait to fall asleep so I could wake up and get out of there.

Good price, but don't be fooled...The rooms were filthy, the shower was freezing and mildew covered. The hallway for the rooms upstairs was very narrow and the stairs were steep and treacherous. We're in our 30's and were very nervous about them. The location was OK, but there weren't enough parking spaces near the "only" entrance that was for the upstairs rooms. (other patrons of the hotel were upset that we parked in front of their rooms - but there was no other places to park). If you're not concerned about cleanliness and just want a place to sleep...it should be adequate.
