Nice room, wrong place for us
Our spa room was quite nice, the desk staff was pleasant and our initial impression of the grounds were favorable. The building with spa rooms was located, though, at the bottom of a rather long hill and the walk to the pools, breakfast or the office was a trek, either on the one-lane streets for two-way traffic and through the parking lots, or across the area we also had as our view-- an open, scrubby field populated with geese, gulls and droppings-- there are no walkways. The bonfire was not on the beach, which is actually only rocky shore, and there were not enough marshmallows or chairs for all the guests who attended. The lakeview from this much-too-expensive room was marred by a large tent, a fence and rusting cylindrical structures in the lake (those structures, not within the hotel's control except in design and layout of the property.) I could not find a pleasant, quiet or uncrowded place to settle in outside and this is one of the reasons I booked in St. Ignace rather than Mackinaw City. There are no timed shuttles to the docks, no trolleys stop in St. Ignace any longer and I ultimately found this hotel only a great place to drive from early in the morning and return to late at night. The layout also posed many difficulties to the disabled traveler in our party.
