Best In St.Ignace
By VacationVisitor, 06/10/09
My wife and I have been going up to St. Ignace annually for 14-15 years now. The last 10 or so have all been spent at Harbour Pointe. The rooms are always clean. The staff is friendly, courteous, and helpful. It's in the middle of everything. Anyplace we want to go in town is within a short drive or walk. In spring, the always beautiful view from our balcony also includes a variety of bird life-gulls, swans, geese, ducks, loons and their young hatchlings. Even with the abundance of bird life, the inn's common areas were kept free of droppings. Always a pleasure to visit here, we've recently starting bringing our young granddaughter who absolutely loves the place too.

Don't pay more than $49 a night
By JRS, 09/01/08
Although advertised as a 'resort-style' accommodation, the property is situated with a view of large fuel tanks in the harbor and affords the basics of a mid-range, 2-star hotel. It has an outdoor pool (a little chilly) and an indoor pool (also a little chilly). The 'breakfast' option was sparse, with cereal, white/wheat bread and milk. The OJ was NOT fresh squeezed as you would expect from a resort, but concentrate. What might look from afar as a fancy hotel is actually a collection of buildings, many of which look like small condos or worse - motels that you would see around the city. The rooms themselves are claustrophobic, the bathrooms barely fit a toilet and a shower. A trip down to the water found packs of cigarettes, styrofoam cups and various garbage. While I can't blame the hotel for something which found its way from a lake current, I can blame them for failing to pick up the trash on the beach. If you pay more than $49 per night, you're spending too much. That being said, the service was excellent and the room was very clean. I have to cut them some slack for being located in a depressed town in a depressed State (Michigan) during a recession, but nobody is going to come back if you don't give them what they paid for, and on Labor Day Weekend, they hiked the prices to $159 per night.

Great Group Vacation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/09/08
There were 10 in our group and all enjoyed the stay here. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They booked a carriage tour of the island for us at a discount. They arranged for a catered bar-b-que off the water. We had a trolley come pick us up and toured St. Ignace & Mackinaw City. The rooms were very clean and the view was pleasant. Some of us were unable to walk to some of the facilities on the ground and we called the front desk and the staff came to pick us up in the golf cart. EXCELLENT SERVICE!!!!

nice room, wrong place reply
By john h., 02/25/08
i wanted to straighten a few things out that a yahoo reviewer left for harbour pointe. first off, if the reviewer had a clue, the water level of lake huron has dropped substantially in the last 15 years, it is basically 3-4 feet lower than the late 80's, so yes, there isn't the sandy beach it had back then. they were looking at lake bottom that has been exposed. as for the rusting structures in the lake, look up st. ignace history to find out that those are fuel tanks that served lake vessels for years. i am sure the all the hotels would love to not to subject customers to seeing those tanks, but that's life. hope this clears up a few pointless gripes from that reviewer.

I can't wait to go back!!
By Curtis S, 10/09/07
I loved the trip to Mackinaw Island my sister and I took at the beginning of the summer of 2007! We stayed here and the room was on the second floor, we had a balcony, and we could see the lake. Everything was fabulous! We did stay in the building farthest from the desk but that didn't stop me from enjoying the pool and hot tub. The view from our room was absolutely amazing! I can't wait until I go back there again!

Nice room, wrong place for us
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/18/07
Our spa room was quite nice, the desk staff was pleasant and our initial impression of the grounds were favorable. The building with spa rooms was located, though, at the bottom of a rather long hill and the walk to the pools, breakfast or the office was a trek, either on the one-lane streets for two-way traffic and through the parking lots, or across the area we also had as our view-- an open, scrubby field populated with geese, gulls and droppings-- there are no walkways. The bonfire was not on the beach, which is actually only rocky shore, and there were not enough marshmallows or chairs for all the guests who attended. The lakeview from this much-too-expensive room was marred by a large tent, a fence and rusting cylindrical structures in the lake (those structures, not within the hotel's control except in design and layout of the property.) I could not find a pleasant, quiet or uncrowded place to settle in outside and this is one of the reasons I booked in St. Ignace rather than Mackinaw City. There are no timed shuttles to the docks, no trolleys stop in St. Ignace any longer and I ultimately found this hotel only a great place to drive from early in the morning and return to late at night. The layout also posed many difficulties to the disabled traveler in our party.

We'll be back next year
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/13/07
Over the past several years, we have stayed at the Best Western Harbour Pointe Motor Inn four times. Each visit was better than the one before. We usually stay in the family suites and find them very comfortable and, for us, a great value. We really love the early morning views of the lake and island. We plan to be back again in 2008.
