don"t stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/28/09
We stayed at the Hamilton last year with no issues. Not great but ok @ $59.00. This year we called to confirm total price, as recommended by the reviews. We were told that we had an upgrade to a king bed. I told them that we have 3 people and we needed two beds. They claimed they were sold out and could not offer any options. I told them we would need to cancel. I was told that to cancel I would have needed to have called yesterday by noon to give them 72 hrs. Explaining that if they would not give me a room that would accommodate us, I would need a cancellation number and that I would not pay a cancellation fee. The person would not give me his name & hung up on me.

We won’t be going back.
By Tosh, 08/30/09
We won’t be going back. At least until they make some improvements. We have stayed here several times and it seems to be getting worse each time. We went there when it was the newest hotel there and had recommended it to several people. It is a bit dated now. We got a jacuzzi room with king bed. I had read other reviews the beds were hard as a rock and they were right. Be prepared to wake up with a stiff back, the floor might be more comfortable. The water coming out of the jacuzzi was a yellowish brown color. We still used it and when we hung up our swimsuits in the bathroom with a white towel under them, in the morning the towel had yellowish stains on them. Needless to say we didn’t use it again. We had gone to the Island for the day. When we got back we thought we would rest in the room for a while before going out to dinner. We went into the room about 3:30 and they still had not cleaned the room. So went to downtown Mackinaw City for a while and went back around 5:30 and they were just getting to our room. So we waited in the lobby for a while until they were done. I will be reading reviews from other hotels and staying elsewhere.

VERY...VERY BAD EXPERIENCE...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/11/09
NOT ONLY VERY OVER-PRICED....BUT THE STAFF WHERE DID THEY GET THESE PEOPLE.....??? HAD A SUITE...COST ALMOST $300...WALKED IN..BUGS EVERYWHERE...CALLED DESK....WAS TOLD BY SOME VERY SNOOTY GIRL .. I MUST HAVE OPENED THE BALCONY DOOR AND LET THEM IN...???? ...VERY RUDE AND UNCONCERNED...BUT DID SEND SOMONE TO VACUMN THEM AWAY......THEN...THE ROOM UPSTAIRS...KIDS JUMPING OFF BED ( APPARENTLY UNCHAPERONED) FROM 10 PM-2AM AND THEN STARTED UP AGAIN AT 8 AM..... BANG..BANG..BANG ALL NITE...CALLED SEVERAL TIMES ONLY TO BE TOLD THEY CALLED THE ROOM AND NO ONE PICKED UP ....ASKED IF THEY HAD SECURITY...REPLY WAS NO FOR A HOTEL THAT SIZE..NO SECURITY..??? ....YEAH RIGHT. AGAIN...APATHY ON THEIR PART AND NO CONCERN...WITH NOTHING DONE. THEN THE INTERNET WASN'T WORKING AND THEY ''DIDN'T KNOW WHY"...AS THEIR COMPUTERS WERE WORKING...AGAIN..TOLD IT WAS MY LAPTOP...(WHICH WORKED FINE THE NEXT DAY ON THE ISLAND) ...AGAIN...NO CONCERN OR SOLUTION RESOLVED..........THEN THE MGR WASN'T PERSONALLY AVAILABLE ON CHECKOUT...SO THEY CALLED HIM......AND INSTEAD OF ASKING HOW HE COULD HELP ME...HE ASKED WHAT I WANTED.......DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO TALK TO HIM AT THAT POINT...THINK HIS NAME WAS PHIL ??? WE WILL NEVER STAY AT THAT HOTEL AGAIN NOR ANY AFFILIATE....THEY ARE NOT THE ONLY 'GAME IN TOWN' AND CERTAINLY DO NOTHING TO MAKE AN OVER-PAYING CUSTOMER FEEL APPRECIATED OR COMFORTABLE. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE...YOU'RE FORWARNED !

Perfect Place for Our Family to Stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/26/09
We arrived on Friday and stayed Monday. It was our family of four includig two children ages 6 and 7 years old. This was the perfect place for our family to stay. The prices were reasonable and the staff was exceptional! Our room was beautiful and comfortable. We enjoyed the convenience of also booking our attractions thourgh the hotel at a discount. We would recommend the Hamilton Inn Select to everyone. Our next visti to Mackinac will definately be spent here again. Thank you all for a wonderful stay.

Worked for this family before in mackinaw
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/04/09
Warning, about eight hotels in Mackinaw City are owned by the same family (along with about four restaurants). They lie and will cheat you. None of the rooms are truly non-smoking. The comment cards are sent to their detroit area residence, so always call corporate. Always try to bargain with them on the phone to get a lower rate, even if you say you have AAA they give you the high price first. They are a very shady and greedy family, it was a summer from you know where when I worked for them! There are many nicer and newer hotels in Mackinaw City not owned by them. But alas, for a wedding I'll be at the Hamilton next weekend:/

Not Worth It!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/26/09
We had reservations at the Comfort Suites across the street, sign on door said to go to Hamilton for checkin and room key. Over there they said we could stay there and have a lakeview room and still get our Choice Privleges points. (I just checked our points - it's shows we cancelled our Comfort Suities room ). The carpet in room hadn't been vaccumed, we let it go, then realized that night that blanket was soiled and we had no shower curtain. They did bring up a curtain. When we mentioned this in the morning, the gal half hearted apoligzed. We asked if we would get the points, oh yes she said - h-m-m we'll see.

Almost ruined our whole vacation!!
By elisa, 03/11/09
First of all we were told that there would be FULL and OPEN access to the indoor water park across the street from us. We specifically told them the dates we would be arriving and leaving and were assured the indoor water park would be open and free for our use! Suprise, after we arrived Sunday night and got the kids up bright and early, we found out that the water park is closed during the week.....I explained to front desk we were told a whole different story and this is the main reason we are here..They were NO help condesending and flat out rude....Our whole stay front desk was extremely rude and not friendly in any way. They acted like we were intruding on their personal space and did not appreciate us being there. The hot tub was dirty and the pool bottom was chipped and dirty looking, although the water was a nice comfortable temperature and we did make the most of it since we could not get to the water park. The rooms on the other hand were very clean and the housekeepers were accomodating. overall disasapointing and very deceiving!!! People in this type of work should at least be a little friendly and not so mean and snotty to their guests!!!!

We will be back!
By John, 12/01/08
On our way back to Canada from Florida we make the Hamilton Inn our preferred place to spend a quiet relaxing evening. We enjoy the water view, the cleanlinss, the pool, exercise room, the breakfast bar, the atmosphere and last but not least the very welcoming staff. Next April, Lord willing we will be back for a fifth year!

Thanks for a great stay
By Helena, 11/28/08
Thanks for a great stay. The room was roomy and comfortable. The breakfast bar was great. It was nice to have 5 bath towels; usually I have to ask for the 5th towel even though I booked the room for 5 people. But not this time, you anticipated our needs even left 2 shampoos and extra soap. We will definately stay here again. Thanks for your thoughtfullness.
