no longer a hotel but a beautiful remodel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/10/11
If you are interested in this historical landmark, it has been remodeled. Most of the my rating info is not valid anymore, but I thought it deserved an update. There are apartments, retail space, and restaurants on the way. Plus a total overhaul of the elegant lobby and ballroom areas.

Hotel is now closed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/30/08
This place is about to begin falling down around the owner. The fire marshall shut the place down several months ago. It is a terrible shame that the owner/owners through the years did not keep this place up to code. This once sparkling gem is now a ghost hotel for sure!

HORRIBLE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/15/07
The last time I was in the Patrick Henry Hotel, it had been closed for overnight guest by the fire marshall. Enough Said. The lobby is great. Takes you back to a bygone era. But as for the rest of the place. What a dump.

It makes me laugh!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/20/07
I used to stay at this hotel when I was in college at Virginia Tech about five years ago. I remember going there one year with a group of people for the jazz festival and getting our second night comped...still don't know why! :) The hotel is a true time warp complete with mail shutes beside the somewhat suspect elevators. The hallways are dim and the rooms are atrociously decorated. However, during the jazz festival we were close enough to hear the music in our rooms (with the windows open). Its the perfect hotel for a party because we didn't see anyone else staying there (I still think that's weird). Overall, a true experience. You must take it for the character and strange charm that it has. Clean rooms, nice employees, awesome rates, and great location.

Well.....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/19/07
I have stayed there very recently and while it is in dire need of renovation it has rich history and is fairly clean (and that is often hard to say for a smoking room). It did have a bit of an eerie "The Shining" feeling to it, but we thought it was fun. Being close to downtown was a plus! If you are just looking for a place to crash for the night, why not? It is hard to find any hotel for a decent price that has any sort of charm, history, or is remotely interesting anymore. I'd stay there again. All the rooms (at least the 3 or 4 I saw) were different which I thought was nice and if they do restore I hope they keep that. That place has alot of potential. The city should really help that place!

POORLY RUN
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/19/06
IT IS A SHAME TO HAVE SUCH A BEAUTIFUL PROPERTY WITH SUCH POTENTIAL SO BADLY MANAGED. NO RESTAURANTS, AT ONE TIME IT HAD THREE, NO BAR OR NIGHT CLUB, AT ONE TIME IT HAD TWO. THIS PROPERTY SHOULD BE A SHOWCASE, INSTEAD IT"S A HAS BEEN. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND .

"We coulnd imaging anything more Disgusting !"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/23/06
I could not stay in this filthy disgusting run down classic. The remnants of a once fine hotel are probably burried under the musty odors, the strong stench of roach spray, and behind the wall paper falling of the walls in the entry way, halls and lobby.

nice place...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/8/06
It has been a while since I stayed at the Patrick Henry, but it was a nice place to stay. It has great charm and being close to all the downtown resturants is a plus. I have also never had a better haircut than I received from Gary at Gary's hairstyling. I highly recommend the Patrick Henry if you are looking to visit Roanoke.

Not Recomended!
This hotel needs an update big time! It may be in a good location but that is no excuse to not make renovations. I'd be suprised if the elevator makes it another month. And not only do you have to pay to stay there but you also have to pay to park your car there with no security guards. When they say "Historic" they mean every bit of the place is "historic". Stay somewhere else!
