Islander Motel, Nags Head

Highly recommend the third floor! We didn't need the kitchenette (but Thank You for the coffee maker) and totally enjoyed, practically lived on, the balcony. From the morning sunrises, to the afternoon retreats from the sun, to the evening surf watching, every moment was an experience. We enjoyed mornings and afternoons on the beach every day, reading, walking, shell collecting, and planning the rest of the day. When we tired of the beach and the sun, it was a quick hop back to our room to rinse off the sand and salt and relax with a nice glass of wine or tea. We came home rested, relaxed, and ready to plan our next trip to the Islander!

We just returned from our one week vacation at the Islander. We loved it! The place was extremely quiet, very clean, very friendly, and best of all - right on the beach! We never heard any noises at all from the other rooms. Even though the place was full, we had the pool to ourselves several times, and there was plenty of space on the beach - not crowded. There are many wonderful restaurants nearby, several in walking distance. We enjoyed going to the Wright Brothers Memorial and to the Lost Colony outdoor theater, but also loved just relaxing and walking the beach. A wonderful place to vacation! Would love to go again sometime!

Recently I joined two other friends in Nags Head, NC for a family wedding. We knew we would not be spending too much time in our hotel room and did not want to pay the usual high rates of most of the hotels in the Nags Head area. After reading several of the reviews for The Islander (and a few others) we decided to take a chance on the family-owned motel. Everything was just as we expected. Beach front hotel that is clean, friendly, with good rates but not fancy at all. We would definitely go back to the The Islander Motel if we were not looking an overpriced resourt vacation.

We were supposed to stay at the Tar Heel across the road but they double booked us so they put us up at The Islander and I'm so glad they did. I really liked The Islander. Very nice clean rooms. Very friendly staff. Maids were so nice. Wonderful view from 3rd floor. My only fault was the double beds in the rooms are too small for a family of 4. At least queen size beds would have helped. Also the balconies are partially closed in. I would have like them to be open more but I would definitely stay there again.

Stayed at the Islander Motel for two nights. Room was spacious and very clean. Family run motel since 1972. The landscaping was beautiful. The Owner and staff were very friendly. We had a great nights sleep very comfortable beds. I would recommend this motel to anyone who wants a nice quiet place to relax. Great view from the balcony and the pool was clean and refreshing.

We were delighted to find the Islander! Cosy, clean, quiet, beautiful gardens, nice large well maintained rooms; a great place to unwind and recharge your batteries. The place has been run by the same family and staff, they are like old friends, always friendly and helpful. We go back every year and get rooms and an efficiency for our family reunion...enjoy grilling out in the courtyard. The pools great too, alittle chilly but we heard they're putting in a pool heater. Location was great! We can just walk to the Dunes restaurant or Owens's. And their prices are very fair. We would never stay any where else!

What a great find! This motel is clean,friendly and close to everything.Right on the beach.An older place-but the staff keeps it clean.Small and quiet-really different.We loved it and would definitely stay there again.About 2 miles south of Jockey's Ridge

We loved staying at the Islander because of its great location and price. It was very bright and very clean. We would highly recommend it and plan to return as soon as possible.

We wanted a beachfront hotel for a few nights and took a chance on this place. It was worth it. They have 2 buildings and 1 is a little closer to the beach but both have oceanviews if you stay on 2nd or 3rd floor. Sand dunes block view for 1st floor but 1st floor has effeciencies. Room was clean and maid service was great. Only negative is that the a/c unit is on the balcony so if you want to enjoy the view you have to turn the a/c off or it is really noisy. Small pool was nice too.

Locality & price the best we found. We liked the fact that it was a short walk to the waterfront and retaurants were convenient to the motel. It was a great place to stay.
