Absolutely dismal .
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/6/10
July ,4th 2010 at the Haywood Park Hotel Absolutely dismal . I would rather spend the night in a railway station in Calcutta. I was so happy to leave. There is not enough space to adequately describe our one night experience at the Haywood Park Hotel. The AC failed soon after our arrival. The staff said that " due to the holiday" there was no one available to add Freon to the system. At around 1:15 am, our plumbing failed. Staff said that the maintenance crew had "just left". Although we reserved a room for three, the initial room had two glasses, and two bars of soap. We were transferred to a different room whose beds were stripped and the room had not been cleaned, no toilet paper or towels, etc. We waited to be transferred to our third room of the tour and at this point, I wanted to leap from the window but of course they were sealed shut..We were sent to another additional room and finally got into bed at around 4:00 am. The plumbing in the third and last room was questionable but I was too fatigued to complain. This was my daughter's birthday and as such, an event she will always remember. The "package deal " included a dinner downstairs in the "Flying Frog", again without AC, which was hampered by the lack of lights (to give it a cool feeling I am sure) and the sound of fans and unbearable humidity which gave it a "tropical touch". To put it simply, our stay was dismal and hazardous to our health. Asheville is a wonderful city but rather than stay at the Haywood Park, you may want to consider sleeping in your car on the street. During our four hour drive back home my wife and daughter slept in the car. I don't remember driving much as I am sure I dozed off and on as well. Before we left my wife wanted me to await the arrival of the Hotel manager but I told her I did not want to meet Basil Fawlty. The exhilaration I felt when we left was akin to my being discharged from the Service in 1972. I think I even kissed the ground when we arrived in our driveway. I must say that my experience at the Haywood Park made me appreciate the small simple things that I may have taken for granted. I may never travel again in my life.

Very Overrated
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/13/08
If you are an experienced business traveler you will be disappointed with this property. It's billed as luxurious, but even though apparently renovated in 2003, the facility felt very outdated. The room was huge, but had old dark carpet; lumpy foam rubber-type pillows; cotton blend sheets; thin bathroom towels; dirty bathtub curtain; stained furniture. For over $200 I typically look for top quality linens and towels. The lobby is very plain as is the front desk staff. You will do better with the more recently built chain hotels in the area. I will not stay there again.

What Luxury!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/2/08
The king size beds were so comfortable, it was hard to get up! But we had to, with so many incredible and unique shops in and around the hotel. When we returned to get ready for the evening, I was blown away by the separate shower and tub, plenty of outlets (ladies you know what I mean) blow dryers, curling irons, phone chargers, etc. plus TV and phone. Music was not far away, as we visited the Orange Peel to see our favorite band "Big Head Todd"! Room service the next day hit the spot, and we will definitely be back soon!

Not impressed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/26/08
It was an annual weekend away for my husband and me.... it was not exactly the relaxing hotel experience we were looking for. Outdated, cigarette-smelling lobby was the intro to the weekend and it should have been the intro into what to expect. Yes, the rooms are big, bathrooms are spacious and clean but the noisy and echo-y sounds from the bar kept us awake all night. We came home more exhausted than when we arrived. The staff did accommodate us by switching our room the second night - they were already very aware of the bar sounds and didn't offer any consolation. I would take an outdated B&B any day. The only redeeming value was the location - we parked our car and never had to use it again until we left.

Maybe we hit a bad weekend ...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/14/07
but when a friend and I walked in we smelled old cigarette smoke. She is highly allergic, so this was disconcerting to say the least. The room seemed lovely on first sight, but was very stuffy and the dial setting made for not the best control. The door handle to the closet with the fridge was coming off and there were other things, like the odd stain here and there. The turn down service looked like someone had a pillow fight with all the bedding, which was tossed into a corner where the shade to a nearby lamp was left askew. We intermittently smelled smoke as in the room and bathroom. My friend got so congested she could barely sleep. Then we had noise from another room, presumably above us, to the point where I couldn't sleep. We left a day early and in retrospect, I should have called the front desk as it was apparent with my comments as we checked out that they knew of some reason we had issues of noise and smoke. Oh well ...

Everything was great but the Smoky room
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/3/07
The service was great, the location was perfect but as we walked into the lobby we smelled cigarette smoke (and it is suppose to be a non smoking hotel). That smell was everywhere and was in our room. We ended up leaving a day early it was so bad. We told them at the desk about the problem and they even seem to know who was smoking but the hotel was book so there was nothing they could or would do. We left for home.

Can't be beat
By Acupunk, 6/20/07
What a wonderful experience my GF and I had spending the weekend here! The staff were all friendly and helpful, even drawing maps for us to find our way around, and recommending places to eat.The fitness room was well appointed and the room was huge. The bathroom was honestly the nicest I've ever had in a hotel. Joe Bob says check it out!

horrible, horrible beds
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/28/07
great everything else. but it's hard to like everything else when your back hurts from sleeping on a rock hard bed. i suggest sleeping on the couch, as it, by contrast, is incredibly cushy and comfortable.
