Shalimar Plaza Motel, Panama City Beach

I'm wondering if we're talking about the same place? The "classic" Shalimar which stood on this site for forty years was demolished in the mad rush for lucre of 2006-8; a multi-story development stands there now. The 'old' Shalimar was a victim of the changing definition of "family values" with those of the Manson Family being more in evidence the last time I stayed there in 2003. I hope the new tower bears the fabled name, but I'm doubting it does. It's still a great venue as it's just up near the Fabulous Boar's Head Restaurant and a very short car trip to a multitude of interesting destinations, not to mention the most beautiful stretch of beach on the Gulf! Regardless, I'll always have fond memories of the Shalimar Plaza, where I vacationed for 18 wonderful years!

I was nervous to stay there. It was a small motel, and I am used to bigger hotelsl. We stayed one night and was treated so wonderful. The employees go beyond the normal expectations to make guests happy. Very pleasant experience. We were disappointed we had to leave. If the same people work there next year, we will be back and we'll bring "our class".

The Plaza was the best place on the strip to stay becase there is always a party! The pool never closes and you can't beat the price! The beach is across the street and you can walk to 95% of all the food and shops.
