Indifference And Downright Lies
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/11/11
Previous reviewers have commented on the raucous music played under oceanfront rooms. This happened last year so I requested an oceanfront far away form the noise. This was in January and I got the appropriate verbal assurance. I got the same assurance in the spring and again the day I set out. So I ended up with a room 2 doors from the music and a shrug from the management. I elected to put up with it - this last time I also got an enthusiastic "right away" when I reported my telephone was not working and the TV picture was shattering. After the second complaint the TV was blamed on the satellite company. The telephone never worked. The restaurant is run now by the appropriately-named "Last Hope Lagoon". The breakfast menu will prominently display "No Refills". At dinner they serve "Herb Chicken" (aka chicken cutlet), undercooked broccoli, and a baked potato for $19. The decor has Alice In Wonderland pictures that children may find spooky and bare-breasted mermaids parents may find objectionable. If they want to change the character of the resort from quiet and family oriented to raucous for swinging singles at least have the courtesy to let us know.

Respect what Montauk is all about.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/12/11
For al of you new to Montauk and all of your complaints please don't go back. Go to the Plaza if you want 5 star service. Montauk is quaint, rusic, and beachy. It doesn't pretend to be anything else. We have been going there for years and live it. We don't expect 5 star service we have never in all of our years going there any rude people, so I wonder who were the rude ones. We do not expect fluffy towels and luxurious rooms. We do enjoy the beach, sand, walking to town for our coffee and pastries, time to read and walk the beach and lay low. If you cannot respect what Montauk is all about please stay home. Thank you.

Great location -very bad service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/2/10
From the moment you call to book, to the moment you arrive, the staff are very rude, Come with low expectations. Only the location is fabulous. Hotel rooms have poor security and the beds were dusty and the bathrooms had the minimum of amenities. Be careful where you book your room,as the rates vary from room to room and the rates advertised are misleading and not worth the value.

Run Screaming From This Place!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/10/10
I was very concerned when I read the review posted on 8/5/10, so much so I called the hotel before our recent arrival and they downplayed that review. They said they were aware of the guest who wrote the review and shrugged her off as being an exception in her criticism of the resort. I thought the place couldn't possibly be as bad as described and we arrived as planned...boy was I wrong! This was our first stay at this place and we will never return. It's a complete dump. "Remodeled rooms" is a euphemism for a coat of paint and a few new fixtures and a little decorating. The rug in our room was coming off the floor and covered in stains. The bathroom was horrible and overall the place was very dirty. The common areas are littered with cigarette butts, beer bottle and garbage of all types. You do get a complimentary breakfast, but that was terrible as well. My wife had waffles that were so hard and cold when served they wouldn't even melt a pat of butter. I had eggs and home fries and both were cold on multiple days. Everything you read in other reviews about the place being loud and unruly is accurate. On several occasions I heard a parent pepper a conversation with their child with obscenities...real classy. The other morning I watched a guest come out of his room, notice his empty beer bottles from the night before where on his beach chair and he threw them on the beach rather than in the trash. On Saturday night there was a 300 person party on the premises that went on into the following morning. One women asked us if it bothered us and she told us she had reported it to the manager and they shrugged that off and told her she was the only one who complained. We even heard the staff at breakfast the following morning talking about how obnoxious that must have been for guests who didn't participate in the party. The bar next door is also a gem. The police were called to that place twice while we were at the Royal Atlantic. The Royal Atlantic reminded me of a Frat party from my college days....a party nobody the age of most of the guests staying there should have been looking to revisit. If that's what you are looking for, book the Royal Atlantic today. If not, run screaming from this place and stay just about anywhere else. If I could have rated this place 0 stars I would have.

What a nightmare this place is.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/5/10
I've been going to the Royal Atlantic for years and I have seen terrible changes in this hotel. First off, the owners are absentee owners, living in Greece. Second, they blast music all weekend. They hire a DJ on Saturday and Sunday afternoon and into the night, if you are unlucky enough to have an ocean front room near the bar, it is super loud. If you are looking to enjoy the ocean sounds, you won't hear them. When the DJ isn't there, the bartender blasts the radio. So, my advice is not to book near the bar and in the pool area, which about leaves no rooms left on the ocean. If you call the front desk and need help with something, they don't care. They won't call you back if you have problems with their wi-fi system. They don't care if a maid cleaned your bathroom with dirty water and your bathroom now smells like urine. Yes, that's what happened. They don't care if the games in the game room don't work, but you lost money. They don't care if the DJ is next to your balcony and blasting your ears off. The restaurant owner hires the DJ, but the manager went along with all of this. He's nowhere to be found. The weather was beautiful, but I had a stressful 4 days. If your child naps in the afternoon, forget it if you are near the bar. Mothers were complaining and no one cared at all. The manager of the restaurant didn't care either. Told me they had a permit for the DJ and they could do whatever they wanted to. Don't stay in room 51 or the one above it and any room near it. It's the worse room to have with the bar attached to it. I had to go into town to buy earplugs, as the bartender blasted the radio until 1 am. I had to leave the $340 a night room and get away from this hotel to hear myself talk to family members. I ended up not using my ocean front balcony. The music was awful. It's the kind of music that SNL makes fun of like "This is Love", etc. Really bad. Don't order the pancakes at the restaurant, as I could hardly cut into the rubbery things. The place has nice rooms, but is falling apart on the outside. It's a mess structurally and the outside of the place has seen better days. If you pay money for an oceanfront room, close your balcony door at 9pm or your room will fill from smoke from all the bonfires. College kids descend on the beach, drink at the bars and the bonfires are so close to your room, you'll choke. I've been to Montauk every year since I was born and the whole atmosphere is trashy these days. Go down the road and stay at the Wave Crest or other places near Gurney's Inn. Don't stay in the ones near town, unless drinking, partying and loud music is your thing. The maid service is horrible. Some of the ladies are nice, but most are immigrants who have no clue how to clean a room. I had to rewash the bathroom and buy Lysol. The front desk doesn't care if you have any problems in your room, as in the toilet doesn't work. Go to the hardware store and buy Draino and a plunger if you have plumbing issues. The kitchen sink wouldn't drain and the toilet wouldn't stop running and the front desk doesn't care about anything. I wasted $340 a night to have my ears bleed from bad music and to have my room cleaned with dirty water. The rooms are decorated nicely, but you can't put lipstick on a pig and not call it a pig.

I LOVE THE ROYAL ATLANTIC
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/15/10
my husband and i go to the royal atlantic at least 2 times a year just , just to get away i feels like your on vacation (i only live 40 mins for montauk ) the minute we walk into the room we open the balcony doors and they never get shut till we leave . The swell of the ocean and the pounding waves is worth the trip . If you just want to relax in your room , walk on the beach , go into the small town and leave all your cares behind this is the place to go . my husband and i stop at iga on our way into montauk and pick up all goodies for the room , one time we stayed over night and never went out and i made a 5 couse dinner in the room because it has a frig , microwave , stove top , sink dishes , cups , coffee pot utensils ect . just make sure you bring paper towel also bring your own towels because they have real tiny ones i cant wait to go back this summer !!!!

it was good but kind of expensive
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/12/09
the good thing about the hotel is mainly its location. it is right on the beach and town is at a walkable distance. also there is a heated pool so you can still swim if there is bad wheather. another good the about this hotel is it was recently renovated and every room had a microwave, stove, refrigerator, and a granite countertop. everything in the room was perfectly clean contrary to the other reviews. there was also a bar right next to the pool that also served food. finally every morning there is free breakfast. the bad things about this hotel is that it is pretty expensive and there is a lack of normal sized bath towels so bring your own.

Great place to stay with minor issues!
By Tami, 6/16/09
Booked a two night stay for the weekend. Upon arrival I requested that we see the room first, this was granted with no hassle. Everything we wanted as far as the room goes was accomodated. The room was: Clean, Comfortable and Roomy. We had an Oceanfront with terrace and nice hot shower water. Built in heated pool with an outdoor bar area that serves food. FREE Breakfast in the morning, full meals from a menu, not a typical continental breakfast at most places, that was delicious. The Resort is close to everything, The Plaza, the Village, Bars, other Hotels and tourist places. Minor Issues: Toilet paper is like sand paper, no tissues like in most hotel rooms, so you have to blow into sandpaper toilet paper, bath mat is a hard piece of paper that DOES NOT absorb water which coincides with the towels that are minimal, so you can't waste a body towel for your bath mat. The towels are not "REAL" bath towels, big enough to wrap your hair after a shampoo, but not to wrap yourself. No alarm clock/radio or ice bucket in the room as in most hotels/resorts. Lastly, we came with food and did not know that the refrigerator was unplugged until the next day, that kind of sucked. Housekeeping should refrain from touching electrical outlets. Overall, can't complain. Would and Will go there again in the future.

Don't do it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/13/08
The worst place I have ever been. Filthy does not begin to say it. We tried more than one room and then left. Dirty sheets, dirty pillows, dirty rugs, dirty towels, paper bathmat (a least it was clean). Old food left in the cabinets, screen doors falling off.........seriously, I would not let my dog stay here. I cannot believe anyone actually likes this place.
