NEVER AGAIN!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/13/11
We stayed here as part of a large group that nearly filled up the hotel. This was our 2nd year in a row. I should have learned better the first time around but decided to give it one more try. We stayed in the same room as we did last year. The bathroom door had been kicked in before our stay in 2010 and remained broken in 2011. Musty smells in the room, broken lights, stained carpets, rude service and that is just the start......... They will never see another dime of my money. They are far from a bargin and I would rather pay my money to someone who knows how to be in the service industry.

Regretting our stay...
By Jessica, 6/18/11
We stayed at the Lodge for 2 nights while attending a wedding. When we first arrived we were introduced to a room with water all over the toilet seat and floor. When we told the office about the situation, we were told that it was our fault there was water everywhere because we took a shower and left the curtain outside of the shower. This would have been understandable if we were in the room for more than five minutes and actually did shower. The office did take care of the situation and switched us to the room next door, which was a little cleaner than the previous room. Later that night we decided to check out the game-room and fitness room. This suggested play area for your children is beyond disgusting. When entering the basement your hit with the smell of mildew. This was just the beginning. There was a children's thomas the train play couch which seemed to have a brown stain on it. The toys were all over the floor, which was just cement, and not taken care of or clean. When entering the fitness room, we saw equipment that appeared to be from the 1960's. Most of the equipment looked as if it was broken and nonfunctional. I would not recommend adults or children to use anything in either of these room. It is not only unsafe, but seems like there is probably bacteria crawling all over everything. We then proceeded to buy a pop out of the vending machine outside of the office. The machine did not have a "out of order" sign, so I assumed it was safe to get a drink. I was wrong, the pop was over a year old and was extremely hot. Obviously the machine was not working properly but the owner did not seem to care. On our final morning we woke up late and had to get ready to go to a brunch for the wedding. There was no hot water and we, along with three other friends that we met, in two separate rooms, were unable to shower. I called down to the office to tell them about this and was instructed to wait 15 mins and try to water again. We did this, and the water did turn hot, but lasted a total of 2 minutes before going back to cold again. We all left the hotel without a shower showing up to the brunch not feeling presentable. When we asked to speak to the owner upon checking-out of the Lodge we were verbally attacked. He accused the five of us of being liars/complainers, and explained that we were part of a wedding group and all we were looking for were discounts and refunds. First of all, its important to understand that none of us knew each other upon booking these rooms. We met through the wedding and therefor did not enter the hotel as a group booking. We were also told that they did not care that we were paying customers and that they could not provide a receipt of our stay or do anything for us until the next day when they do their billing. So, I then told the owner about the pop i had bought and asked for a refund. He then looked at the expiration date and threw his hands in the air and yelled "is there anything else you want?" He then ran to the office. I followed him, which his wife and mom I think, followed me while yelling accusations and vulgar comments at me. When I entered the office I was not handed my refund for the drink but it was thrown at me. After leaving the office the three people began yelling that they hope i dont treat every hotel this way and what can I expect because they told me its not the Taj Majal. After this event we were charged the full price for our stay. The owner should not be a businessman. This was not an appropriate way to handle criticism. This owner does not appreciate customers what-so-ever and is degrading and rude. I would not recommend staying at this lodge for any reason. It is sad that the owner could not do something about our situation. . I would highly advise anyone to rethink their stay before booking this lodge.

I wish I would have read these reviews!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/15/11
I recently stayed at the Catskill Mountain Lodge along with three other couples. Our friend had suggested this place because it was close to the wedding we were attending on the weekend and his future wife grew up near by. I am from Kansas and heard before I went to New York things were kind of expensive. I booked the room for three nights, thurs, fri, and saturday. The other groomsmen arrived on fri night and were in the same building as my girlfriend and I. We ALL had the same experience with no hot water! We all talked to the owner and his wife and were greeted with the same rudeness as ive read in these other reviews. We were accused of lying so we wouldnt have to pay our bill. If that wasnt bad enough the owners family also started yelling at us and saying "well everybody else likes it so you must be complainers!" and "You know its not the Tajmahal lady!" Boy is that a true statement! My friend also had bought a pop out of the pop machine that sits outside the main building. The pop was more than a year old and luke warm, when she asked for a refund for the pop the owner threw his hands in the air and said " IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT!??" This man would not make it as a business owner in Kansas. If you have younger children please check out the "game room" before letting them go down there unattended. When we went down there the place smelled horrible and there was mildew growing up on the walls. There were also kids toys with mildew or fecies on them. The creek bed was actually an enjoyable hike and is located at the back of the property. Overall I would not reccomend this place to anyone. Customer service is fine as long as you dont need anything.

Beaware Before Making a Reservation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/25/10
I made reservations 5 days prior to arrival date. Two hours later I had to call back and cancell the reservation due to an emergency work that weekend. I was charged a Fee for cancellation. I stated that it does not seem like great customer care and I was told " It is What it Is" "read the website more carefully next time."

This place was a horror house
By Jimmy, 2/17/10
No hot water, dirty bed sheets, broken toilet. They replaced our used cups, with guess what? The same used cups were put back! The maid was nice enough NOT to change the sheets. I knew she didn't change them because the same dirt stain was on there from the night before. Overall this place was slightly better than sleeping in the street.

Not the rural getaway I hoped for, but fine.
By SamTheB, 1/19/09
The owners seemed very nice and we had a great breakfast. My one complaint is that the whole place (the parking area and compound of buildings) was lit up like a used car lot with super bright lights. It's darker on a New York street. Personally, I was hoping for a country experience in the dark quiet of the woods. It was clean, though.

Highly Recommended!
By Rico, 7/7/08
Highly recommended! We just spent the 4th of July weekend at the Catskill Mountain Lodge and found everything to be first rate. Our room was spacious, clean and well beyond what we expected for the price. The restaurant and bar were excellent (with 14 beers on tap!) and the help was very accommodating (they served us dinner when we arrived hungry after a long drive, even though we showed up when they were officially "closed.") The new management seems to be doing its best to upgrade and repair the facility (which we heard from some locals had been allowed to fall apart by the previous owner). It was their first weekend of outdoor live music, but after some brief technical difficulties, the music that followed was excellent (a folk group and a jazz group). The acoustics are great and it's really a beautiful setting. There are plenty of great local attractions, hiking, sightseeing, etc., far more than we were able to explore in a single visit. We plan to get up there again very soon (hopefully this summer)! While we drove up from NYC, we were pleasantly surprised to learn that there's a bus that will bring you from Manhattan and drop you off directly in front of the lodge. With rising gas prices, we'll probably consider this option in the future. Highly recommended!

A Satisfied Customer
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/22/08
I had a wonderful time during my stay at the Catskill Mt. Lodge. The lodge, which is under new ownership, has had extensive renovations made to it, renovations which include newly installed fireplaces, top of the line chef, host and hostesses to meet and greet, game room for children, and many other amenities that are soon to come like a sauna and entertainment rooms for families who wish to celebrate graduations, birthdays, engagements, etc. There will be many changes made to attract people of all ages who enjoy skiing and hiking, horseback riding, as well as internet access, good food, and an environment that provides contemporary jazz and good company. There is also a section of the lodge that accommodates pets (imagine taking your pet on vacation)! As these changes continue, this lodge will soon become the "it" place for people who enjoy nature and the finest accomodations at a reasonable price. I should also mention the lodge has a beautiful pool for those who enjoy traveling during the warmer months, and a pub that provides a relaxing atmosphere for those who enjoy a wood-burning fireplace, pool, music, and good conversation.
