Planes, Bears, Charm and Serenity...
I spent a weekend in one of their cottages in late July. The cottage was newly renovated with the bathroom and the kitchenette approaching the standard of a nice hotel. Definitely a great value there. Not all the cottages are renovated yet, and I simply can't wait to see the most spectacular cottages, the ones closest to the lake, with patios nearly protruding into the lake, in their renovated state. The owner has a successful carpentry business in Brooklyn and he is very passionate about his lake renovation projects.
The location of the resort is great. It is situated on a very interesting shore line with a beach in the middle, a natural rocky platform (ideal for tanning) on one side and a tree lined bay on the other side.
Across the bay you can see the Village of Long Lake with a couple of stores, restaurants, a big marina, not only for yachts, but also for two water planes that offer air tours of the lake. It is just great to see the planes landing on the lake while sitting on the beach and enjoying the sun.
Perhaps the biggest attraction for some are the bears that love the secluded resort, or rather its garbage cans. Almost every morning the annoyed maintenance staff would have to clean up after the bears looking for "treasures" in the trash containers.
I definitely recommend this place - it has a charm and serenity of an undisturbed nature despite of a luxury in the cottages and the wireless internet connection in motel rooms... Soon you won't be able to find many places like this one. Enjoy while it lasts..
