Whitcomb Summit, Florida

I've read the older reviews, and understand some of the concerns: the place is -- as the owner put it to us -- "in transition," and when my wife and I stayed there this past weekend parts of the exterior still needed work. But don't be put off: our room was clean and comfortable, all of the appliances were in perfect working order, the proprietor was friendly and helpful, and the views, extending a hundred or so miles over the adjoining mountains, were among the most spectacular we have ever seen. We would return in a heartbeat.

I loved the people. They made us feel like family. They cooked us a special breakfast and really made sure we were happy & taken care of. It's hard to find this in todays world. Everyone is out to make a buck and not work for it. Not the case here. I recommend anyone to stay. I can't wait to go back. Thank you

The Whitcomb Summit is a clean, modern, well maintained, well appointed motel in a magnificent setting: at the top of a mountain on Route 2 in the Northern Berkshires with 100 mile view of Massachusetts, Vermont and to Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire on a clear day. It is something to wake up to a view of the mountains and valleys below covered with clouds. Owners Ed and Carol are friendly, hard-working and unusual for americans -- sincere, not pathologically superficial. They work very hard to make your experience enduring and memorable, and put a lot of time and effort into making their motel a place you think about afterwards and want to come back to.

We enjoyed our stay very much. Our room was tastefully decorated, clean, with new queen size beds, thick towels and very soft sheets and blankets. The view was incredible from our room. The owners have done a great job renovating the rooms. We are from Europe and we were in a two week vacation in New England and this was exactly what we were looking for. We definetely will recommend it to our friends.

Whitcomb Summit in Florida, MA ist ein renoviertes Motel, welches durch ein freundliches und hilfbereites Ehepaar gefuehrt wird. Die Zimmer sind sehr sauber und besonders vom Balkon aus koennen faszinierende Sonnenaufgaenge erlebt werden. Die Gegend bietet verschiedene Ausflugs- und Wandermoeglichkeiten. Wir, als Naturliebhaber sind voll auf unsere Kosten gekommen.

I've stayed here many times over the years and I keep going back for the view. It is breathtaking. When you walk out of your room in the morning you see miles of mist covered mountains. That being said however there is not much else you would want to go back for. The people who run the place are nice but it's just getting too run down and the rates keep going up each year. One year stayed there were no curtains on any of the cabin windows (and it was right next to the main road.) Another time there was no hot water. Last year when I stayed in the main building, the TV (which only got about 3 channels) had some automatic shut off issue so it would only stay on for a minute or two at a time before turning itself off. There is free coffee but no one gets up to make it until after 8:00 AM. The owners are working on a condo plan for the place and I hope it works out. It would be a shame to lose this landmark.

On the web site it looked beautiful, when we arrived it looked very run down. Our room had a terrible odor it was not clean. The bathroom had a light fixture over the sink no light bulb, the toliet seat needed to be replaced. The mattresses were old and need to be replaced. The whole room and motel needs to be refurbished. The look out tower was boarded up and you could not use it. It was a BIG disappointment, save your money.

Website is VERY deceiving. Observation Tower, closed. Resturant, closed. Hiking trails, where? This place should be torn down! We ended up going to the Holiday Inn in North Adams for $10. less a night and we did not have a strange smell in our room. The pillows were clean and plump. Plus we were within walking distance of civilization!

I truly enjoyed my stay at Whitcomb Summit. I even loved the place before I ever saw it or got there in person...just the fact that I was able to get a room on fairly short notice and at such an affordable rate, and in a perfect location for my itinerary in North Adams, was awesome. The Drummond's were so helpful in more ways than one...from their constant providing of directions (for one who is so geographically-challenged!) to their perfect solutions to my growling stomach! They were ALWAYS cheerful and would take the time to chat NO matter the situation...always very accommodating. I had a somewhat weird schedule during my stay and spent most mornings sleeping in and then staying out late after my son's Steeplecats baseball games. As a result, after just one morning, the "housekeeping" staff quickly realized my routine and adapted accordingly - allowing me quiet and undisturbed mornings before coming in to "freshen" my room. It was such a seemingly remote spot, but amazingly convenient to "town". Beautiful scenery (complete with own "lookout tower"), quaint layout of cabins (or choice of motel accommodations), "private" swimming pool, and on-site indoor/outdoor home-cooked dining complete a TOTAL package! What more could a visitor/vacationer need/want? I look forward to my NEXT visit. CCW Santa Cruz, CA
