Relaxing ...

We stayed at Bandos Resort, Maldives in the 3rd week of April 2007 in a Jacuzzi Beach Villa with an Open air bathroom.
The room had all the necessary amenities, was spacious enough but all wardrobes are outside in the bathroom. The bathroom was spacious and the jacuzzi is well-worth having. At night however, there can be a lot of big ants in the bathroom. But none of the insects enter the main room. The Jacuzzi villa is split over 2 levels - the bedroom upstairs with a lovely balcony upstairs. The photos on the resort's website look very colourful and spacious - I found the colour in the room pretty faded and not as spacious as the photos. Also, I requested the lghtbulbs to be changed as it was far too dull in the room.
Weather: April was very hot when humidity was very high. There was hardly any breeze on the island. Humidity attracts insects especially mosquitoes. Ask Housekeeping to keep an insect spray in your room or spray the room when they clean it.
Beach: There is very little beach space as the sea has eroded a lot of the beach and the beach contains a lot of vegetation which protects it from erosion from the sea. Therefore, you cannot have your own private beach area - people are crowded around a particular area of the beach. In comparison, Laguna Resort has a lot of private beach and space. At the Bandos, it was very difficult to walk around the island by walking on the beach.
Spa: I enjoyed the massages at the Spa. Thoroughly recommended, especially the deep-tissue massage which relieves you of stress and jetlag.
Water sports: all activities are available at the resort providing you are ready to pay for them.
Resort: Food is pretty good. We had good breakfast options - you can also request for some food to be packed. All staff are very friendly at the resort.
The only disappointing point about the resort is that there were a group of 10 guests that arrived a day before we were about to leave. They were very noisy, disruptive and unruly. The resort doesn't have any good procedures to deal with guests like this and it can ruin your holiday if you have noisy, unruly neighbours. In the rooms, I found no Code of Conduct guiding how guests are expected to conduct themselves on the resort. There is no security walking around either to check what is happening around the island. All the other islands I have been to have some sort of security there.
I have been to the Maldives 3 times and I would rate the islands as follows:
1st: Laguna
2nd: Kurumba
3rd: Bandos
