Clean and nicely located but researvation staff unhelpful
This hotel is very nicely located which makes the first time stay in New Delhi very easy. Khan Market (the popular shopping place for foreigners and foreign nationals living in New Delhi) is just 2 minutes walking distance. All site-seeing areas of New Delhi are within 5-10 mins by autorickshaw. Even Old Delhi visits are not too far if you go by autorickshaw or hotel-booked taxi.
The hotel room (double, executive) was very clean by all standard. The housekeeping seems to do a good job except that they often forget to put every item everyday. Some small item (such as face towel, complementary mineral water) might be missing, if you mind this. This could be a trick to earn some extra tips by the house-keeping staff when you request them to bring. Better not to pay tips on these silly things.
The room rate has to be settled with this hotel in writing as soon as you book as the rate may vary. We were very disappointed to see that the room rate changed when we re-confirmed just two days before our departure. After much talking with the managers, which almost ruined the initial excitment of vacation, they agreed to charge the same rate as they had agreed over the phone one month in advance. But again this message was not recorded in their system and when we were checking out we had to again argue over this matter with the duty staff. Finally they gave us the same rate as discussed when we initially booked but after much trouble of talking over these things when you are on a vacation. My suggestion is that you get them send e-mail or fax with written room rate. They may even charge you tax on their complementary breakfast which came as a total surprise. Please do not pay if not mentioned in the initial agreement. Complementary breakfast should be free for the customer and why hidden tax. They will always make excuse that the government charges this tax which has no proof. Another funny thing that can happen is the tax on the room rate may not be on the room rate they ask you to pay. They may say that the tax will be charged on a higher room rate (without letting you know this fact at the time of booking). They may say some government rules but please do not believe this and pay the tax on the room rate they are charging you. This may be a bad business practice happening in other good hotels too in New Delhi or other parts of India. Another thing that we minded was that they have two types of room rates. One which is in USD applies to foreigners and non resident Indians. The other rate in Rupees applies to Indians and foreigners living in India. This is total rubbish if it is happening in all the good rated hotels. They should charge same rate fixed either in India Rupee or USD for all customers. They were kind enough to charge us Indian Rupee rate which might have been cheaper.
Room service staff are attentive and helpful. Other staff also look after the guest very well.
Overall, the accommodation was nice and clean but some practices in terms of charging money put us off. My adivice, get everything clear and preferablly get it written at the time of booking. Managers will listen but after much argument. The rooms are slightly expensive or same charge compared to similar hotels of similar quality in other major cities in the world which is very disappointing. The hotel should provide good value for money if they want to attract regular visitors.
