Safe Bet

One of the better places in Pt Gentil. It's across the road from the beach, with views of floating timber and tugboats, and a jackup drilling rig in the distance.
The food at the resteraunt is edible - however I preferred to eat out at one of the many resteraunts that cater to Westerners in POG. You need a bit of French to do this comfortably. There are also a number of "local resteraunts" which are adequette, however be sure to take your bug spray.
The hotel pool is clean and functional. I would not recommend swimming in the ocean, unless you go to Club Sogara. (On the other side of the Port)
Staff at the Meridian have a grasp of English, however it is best to learn enough French to reserve your room and order your food. As always, the exchange rate for any currency given at the hotel is very poor. The CK2 hardware store on the main street will accept euros and give change in the local CFA.
This hotel is expensive for what you get. However, it is in Gabon - nothing is cheap there.
I have stayed in other hotels in POG - but the Le Meridien Mandji is probably the safest bet.
There are some locak girls soliciting outside the hotel grounds on Friday and Saturday nights. Ignore them. Le Galleon pool hall (behind the Score supermarket) is a good pub.
