Fair Enough

Le Meridien Mandji in Port Gentil has poor customer service, staff keep on ignoring our request. The quality of service is not as good as expected and the way front desk staff answer phone is not professional. I think it's best that all staff are well trained before work to be aware of the demands of their customer. Food is also unreasonable as comparable to other Meridien hotels. The cleaning ladies are doing good job! Air conditioners not good, TV channels are limited, wifi is considerable.

Good Hotel

Free internet service is very reliable. The Le Meridien in Libreville charges for the same service. Not sure if this one in POG intends for it to be free, but I'm not asking. Excellent location near bars and restaurants. Hotel is clean and each room has a safe. It's expensive and would be half the price in the US. Clean rooms, (no carpets makes this easier) Baths could use some repairs but there is water and it's hot. Breakfast is very expensive, just go down the street and grab something at one of the restaurants.

Safe Bet

One of the better places in Pt Gentil. It's across the road from the beach, with views of floating timber and tugboats, and a jackup drilling rig in the distance. The food at the resteraunt is edible - however I preferred to eat out at one of the many resteraunts that cater to Westerners in POG. You need a bit of French to do this comfortably. There are also a number of "local resteraunts" which are adequette, however be sure to take your bug spray. The hotel pool is clean and functional. I would not recommend swimming in the ocean, unless you go to Club Sogara. (On the other side of the Port) Staff at the Meridian have a grasp of English, however it is best to learn enough French to reserve your room and order your food. As always, the exchange rate for any currency given at the hotel is very poor. The CK2 hardware store on the main street will accept euros and give change in the local CFA. This hotel is expensive for what you get. However, it is in Gabon - nothing is cheap there. I have stayed in other hotels in POG - but the Le Meridien Mandji is probably the safest bet. There are some locak girls soliciting outside the hotel grounds on Friday and Saturday nights. Ignore them. Le Galleon pool hall (behind the Score supermarket) is a good pub.

Hotel Review

I don't speak french very well but i was able to communicate with most of the hotel staff. The food is pretty good, but there are some restaurants in the city that are better. They need to close in and air condition the lobby. It's really too hot and there are too many bugs to just stand there and conduct business, converse, eat etc. The rooms were pretty nice and housekeeping did a good job of cleaning them. The one big problem with this hotel is that my colleague and I were unable to make international phone calls from the rooms. We had to have family and friends call us. And w/ the time difference it was slightly inconvenient. probably good for families as there were many children out and about.
