hurricane emily
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/11/07
My family went to this resort just before hurricane emily. I owners from who we rented the condo provide no guidance or assistance during the hurricane when we called. They would not even reimburse our stay or provide any assistance. The mamngers where even worse. Lets just say that fisherman village and the private owners of the condo were just horrirable. I would not recommend this place for any families!

We love this place!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/27/07
We bought a two bedroom condo timeshare there about three years ago and love it. We go there twice a year and have been very happy each time we have come. It is a small condo property so you don't have huge crowds. It is in a gated community within walking distance of 5th Avenue. The food and staff are wonderful. The rooms and grounds are kept very clean. All rooms look out to the beach. You can purchase the all inclusive meal/drink plan by the day, week or not at all. That is a nice feature. The pool is beautiful. The beach area is small but private. They also have a new beach club down the street with a larger beach area, volleyball court and food, activities etc. Another advantage is the spa that has massages either overlooking the beach or inside. They have two private jacuzis, a steam room, manicures and pedicures and an exercise/weight room with a stair master and treadmill. They also have a concierge and daily activities for the guests like bicycles, exercise classes, cooking lessons, fiesta parties etc. I love it and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Very fishy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/20/07
We visited Playa del Carmen in 2005 where we were hoisted off to Fisherman's Village by a salesman and held in a freezing conference room for several hours until we conceded to buy a time share. The hotel is very nice. We have not stayed there yet but had no problem booking a week for friends of ours who have reported that their stay was very pleasant. All things considered their sales technique verges on fraud. We were assured it would be easy to rent at least two of our three weeks a year; this was a non-truth. We then paid a Florida company called Vacationweeks a fee of $400 to rent our weeks. They have since littered my e-mail box with spam and no sign of ever selling a single week. With the current maintenance fee as it is, essentially you pay several thousand dollars to stay in a good hotel at about $75 dollars a night.

Love it but cannot go
By sheri, 6/22/07
We bought at Fishermen's 2 years ago and got to go 2 times. Now this year they say that we cannot go back because we bought a vacation club, called VIP. Now VIP is telling us that Fishermen's does not have availability for us any more. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it easy for RCI members to get availability? We love the resort but think they have over sold maybe.

bought a timeshare
By SusanB, 6/13/07
I went with a friend who belongs to RCI and I thought the place was great until the timeshare presentation.....I had the same problem as many others it seems. I bought 3 weeks from Brandon in the new section also (I did get a corporate week for free) and they said they wanted one or two weeks and GUESS WHAT??! I've NEVER seen a dime. I also paid $400 to vacationweeks in Florida to rent my place. I have called them (not telling them I own weeks) and they claimed to have many weeks available and here is the price. The place is very, very nice, but it ought to be. The maintenance fee has gone up at least $100 every year since I first bought mine in 2001. When they had the hurricane, I ended up paying ANOTHER fee (about $300) to allegedly cover costs for damage. Haven't been back since. The location to downtown Playa is awesome and within walking distance to super shopping (or if you're lazy like we were sometimes, take a taxi). The beach was awesome and so were the beach massages. The free breaksfast was great with fresh fruits and fresh made omelets. But that was 6 years ago. Overall, a 3.

Beware
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/10/06
High pressure time share sale that is supposed to take 90 min. After 3 plus hours the price quoted was 2 weeks for 70K (American). They insisted on being able to rent one of the weeks for two years. Read above. That apparently never happens. There was also something about buy one week and get another free... Anyway, 4 sales people later the price was at like 3K. Some stripped down version of the original which was already stripped down. 70K for a time share... Oh My... I would watch my Peso's

nice sales job
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/6/06
I'm writing this to get this off my chest. I was told they would have my units rented for me as I had no plans to come back for at least 2years. That way I could make the rent to offset my expenses. I have had this now for several years and NOT ONCE HAS THIS BEEN RENTED OUT BY THEM. I was told to get another company to do this( for another fee)and that turned out the same. No rent. Not even any calls to negociate a price. I'm told to just do it myself. It's a nice place, close to uptown and good rooms and food. Fresh fruit is hard to screw up though. We'll always go back because of the area but don't buy time shares thinking that they will do something for you to help you.
