There is Better
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/19/11
This hotel is nicely remodeled for being a historic landmark. Some of the rooms are large, however, some are very small. I had a large room which was nice but the bathroom was very small. They would have been better off taking some of that extra space and enlarging the bathrooms which only accommodate one person at a time. The restaurant/bar does not open till 5pm so if your looking for a early meal or drink your out of luck till then. The Internet is free but just a notch up from dial up even though they say it is high speed. I had faster Internet on my cell phone and actually had to walk to a close hotel to use their free Internet in their lobby to get my work done. The fitness room consists of a tread mill, exercise bike and some free weights.

Won't go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/10/11
Everything was clean and the staff was curteous and friendly. However, when I showed up there was a group of young adults smoking by the entrance and there was loud music coming from a room at the hotel. It looked like a club filled with young people a in the actual hotel. I arrived in my room around 11pm and the thump of the music was resonating all the way up to my room. I eventually fell asleep a while later. I was tired and it still took a while to fall asleep. It was a nice and clean hotel but there are other choices in the area if I go back up.

NO! NO! NO! A total ripoff!!!!
By Conseco, 5/26/09
What a joke of a hotel. Run by scammers and ripoff artists. Offered one rate at Check-in that I SIGNED for and jacked it up at checkout. When I protested the manager (who wasn't even there) said that yes, the clerk (18 yr old kid) had me sign the rate but made a mistake and shame on him. What? Did that just happen? Would not honor the $35 a day difference. Paid $179 a night because they claim to have a price guarantee so I figured it was the lowest available. Wow was I wrong!!! should have checked Hotels.com....rooms are $89. They will sell the same tiny room for $89 AND pay Hotels.com a fee and they won't honor the $144??? What's wrong with this picture? Patio looks like they had a party 3 months ago and never cleaned up. Absolutely filthy cushions and chairs, tiny rooms (no closets or hangers). Asked for Iron and board and never received it (they thought there was one in the room.....where could they possibly put it?). Very creepy guy hanging out at breakfast bar taking your room number. Staff is all under 23 years old and can't make a decision or get anything done. Workout room is a joke (one treadmill and 10 dumbbells). Good luck getting that treadmill. If you must stay here go to Hotels.com, get the $89 rate then look up the rate on the Montgomery website and get them to give you the 10% gaurantee back. You'll stay for $80. Maybe for $80 you can stomach the filth (and lies).

The Hotel Montgomery is a gem amongst jewels.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/23/07
There may be other larger brand name hotels, but you'll pay for the name, parking, etc. We loved staying there and the rates were much better and we even stayed in a suite. The Paragon is great too for dining, drinks etc. We almost missed the real event were downtown to attend.

They have spoiled us!
We love everything about this hotel from the downtown location to the special treatment we receive from the hotel staff. The hotel has been remodled to perfection and we always feel at home.

Diamond in the rough
By Larry, 3/1/06
I booked online but hadn't seen a picture of the Hotel. When I arrived the outside looked like it was real old so I assumed the inside would be run down and dirty. Much to my surprise it was not only SPOTLESS inside, but the interior was very art deco. We were upgraded to a King Deluxe room for free since the Queen deluxe wasn't ready. The bathroom was marble with wood accents and it came with nice bathrobes to wear and the towels were the softest ever. The staff was very friendly and the hotel is located within 2 blocks of a Starbucks, Borders bookstore, Johnny Rockets Burgers, and a 3 story movie theater. Best weekend I ever spent away from home. Don't let the outside of the building fool you.

Highly Recommended
By Connie, 5/23/05
It was a breeze checking in and the staff was wonderful. The rooms were so comfortable we thought about staying in and missing our event. We enjoyed the Paragon Bar atmosphere and music to finish the evening. We look forward to having another function in San Jose to have the opportunity to stay at the Hotel Montgomery.

Great Hotel!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/2/05
What a great find. While traveling on business our normal hotel was booked so we stayed here. Very friendly and helpful staff made sure our stay was great. Would recommend this hotel to my co-workers.

Great value near convention center.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/18/05
I stayed at the Hotel Montgomery while attending a conference at the convention center. It's only two blocks away, so if you're looking to save a few bucks, this is a great option. The rooms are great, the internet access worked well, and the continental breakfasts were above average. I'd stay there again on my next trip to San Jose.
