Worth it!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/6/06
My wife and I visited this hotel between 18-25 June 2006. At first, seeing all the reviews we were pretty concerned about what we were going to experience at this hotel. We were pleasantly surprised that on first arrival, everything seemed in order and we had no real complaints to make. The big thing to remember is this: This is a 3 star hotel...and don't therefore expect any better than that! For what we paid for our all inclusive holiday, we certainly got our monies worth! The hotel has got one of the best pools that we have ever seen and a fantastic beach with calm and clear water. There is a pool bar that opens around 10 and serves drinks throughout the day. Food: Well this is something a lot of people have been critical of in some reviews...There is nothing wrong with the food at all, there were always plenty to choose from, BUT if you are looking for your standard food you eat at home, Then stay at home! The food was delicious, warm and always well presented with a great choice. Staff: They were great and always seemed to try and entertain everyone, morning till night, in their own Tunisian way...Once again, this may not be what you get back home but you are abroad and there are lots of different nationalities to please. In my opinion this hotel is quite a good family destination as the children especially were always kept busy. See and Do: Get one of the yellow taxis outside the hotel gates, they are metered and won't rip you off. The Medina at Hammamet is the better choice compared to the one at Yasmin Hammamet as the vendors are not as pushy! We were warned prior to our departure to watch out for the pushy vendors who can't take no for an answer...We had no trouble with this, just carry on walking if you aren't interested, don't say anything, just walk. It was actually quite a laugh once we got the hang of it! If you do wish to have a night out, go to Yasmin Hammamet as there are plenty of bars, restaurants and nightclubs, including some British one's. Most tour operators also offer a good selection of trips. Security: We felt safe throughout our stay and could go on the beach at night or walk outside the complex at our own will, unlike many other destinations. If you wish to purchase alcohol or tobacco, do so at the airport, it is a lot cheaper! Final word of caution: Although we had a good time and enjoyed our stay, a pair of shoes went missing from our bedroom, strange......as we had a lot more valueble items around. All in all, if you are thinking of going here...GO FOR IT!!!- Just remenber, you are a short way away from the Sahara desert, it gets HOT!

This hotel is just fine
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/6/06
Actually despite what reviews on other sites say ... this hotel isn't too bad. Its not your dream five star hotel - but thats not what you're paying for.... we also got there quite late, but were greeted with a welcome drink and the bar were happy to serve us even though we were really pushing the limit of when the all inclusive time finished. The rooms are basic but tidy and the cleaners and room maids were lovely actually, we came back each day to find our bed made so prettily with sheet 'sculptures' and petals and flowers on it (and we weren't on honeymoon!). And no, we didn't have anything stolen. At all. We even left some money out in the room without hiding it away and it was never touched. The food was fine. There wasn't much meat but i'm a vegetarian so i was happy, but even my hubby (a standard meat-eating northerner) was also happy with the food. A typical north african menu, lots of couscous, salads, vegetable stews, chickpeas etc. For the unadventurous there was pizza and pasta and yes, I guess if you only ate the stuff that they made to cater for the really boring and unwilling-to-try-anything-different type of guest then maybe you would get bored but frankly if you want english food - stay in england!! Bar staff were lovely and friendly, and i certainly never got the impression, as i have seen on some other reviews, that we were treated less favourably because we were english and not french or german, by any of the staff. There are lots of cats around, although I never saw one in the dining room, they were always shoo-ed away by the waiters, they did come in the bar areas, but this is not limited to this hotel this is a tunisia-wide thing, and they never caused us any bother at all. We were at the hotel at the very beginning of the summer season, and its true there wasn't a massive amount to do, however the entertainments team were pretty lively and did try and get everyone involved, especially the kids. All in all, we had a lovely holiday, we didn't really want to do much anyway, except lie in their nice grounds and soak up that sunshine, drinking endless beers that never ran out!!!!!

over all review
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/9/06
I travel quite a bit with my partner and decided to try something different and Tunisia was exactly what we wanted. This hotel was so perfect for us,the food was original and oriental but if you're quite a fussy eater the food would still be great. The entertainment and bars were quiet and we were actually able to hold a conversation with out shouting unlike other places we have been. But you're guaranteed to have a good night out. I would recommend this hotel to any one who wants a good grin but also a quiet holiday. We are definately going back here!!

quite hotel with tasety food
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/22/06
i like this hotel - the servis stuff was very friendly, rooms were clean, food was tasty, the beach was really great! the only disadvantage is the location, the hotel is situated quite far from center of the Hammamaet (especially Jasmin Hammamet) where was great night life - discos, restaurants and so on. But the taxi in Tunisia is quite cheep so it will take for you to reach the centre just about 15-20 minutes.
