Clean, neat hotel; very friendly and polite service. Multilingual staff. Great breakfast, etc. Central location, accesible by all means. It will be give you an idea of what was Bucharest in the 30's Will go back anytime!

the remnants of past glory
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/31/07
Stayed in this hotel late juli 2007. Arriving in the hotel we saw 2 bell-boys, neither of the two gave us attention, let alone help us with the luggage. The receptionist was polite but no more than that. After we had checked in, we were on our own finding the way to our rooms. We found the lift to be at the end of a 6 step flight of stairs... The rooms were clean but the furniture was old and the bathroom not very much up to modern standards. There was a swimming pool allright, but it contained no water and it looked like that hadn't been the case for a very long time! The restaurant overlooking the swimming pool looked like it was abandoned long ago. Returning to the hotel after dinner at about 10 o'clock, we found out that the hotel bar was already closed. The minibar contained beer that was 3 days overdue... The breakfast was in one word bad, i will spent no more words on it. The promised wireless internet in the lobby did not work, we were advised to "try again tomorrow" (of course it didn't work the next day). The only positive sides to this hotel; it was quiet and the bed was ok... In short i would not recommend this hotel to anyone expecting more than a bed to lay oneself down to rest at night.

My preferred Bucuresti hotel
The Lido is a beautiful 1930s hotel that was completely renovated in 1995 and appeals to the longer term business visitor. The hotel is well known as the location for Olympic gymnast Nadia Comenici's wedding reception!! I have stayed at the Lido three times each for trips of more than one week and when I lived in Bucuresti in the late 1990s I frequently used it for breakfast and client meals. The hotel is very centrally located on the main street, Bulevardul Magheru. It is a smaller one and after a few days the staff all knew my name and took very good care of me. The buffet breakfast is great with the best breads and rolls in Bucuresti. The rooms are very comfortable furnished in French Empire reproduction. What is key is the comfort of the room, the telephone service, quality of the breakfast and whether the hot water is ample and the towels fluffy and I can rate the hotel very highly. There is no entertainment in the hotel, the bar is quite small (about 25 seats) and it is therefore quiet and pleasant. Ask for a room overlooking the pool as there is less street noise if you are a light sleeper.
