surprisingly pleasant

Our first impressions viewed from the outskirts of the town and on our approach towards the hotel was the regrettable high rise block and slightly drab looking location. Compared to the rest of the town it seemed that we were in the wrong end.It was also very difficult to find an available parking space within the safe confines of the hotel.
However, our premature feelings of regret were soon vanquished on entering the hotel where we were met by pleasant and relaxed surroundings and a very helpful and welcoming staff. The rooms were well furnished and comfortable. The large dining room/restaurant was also invitingly pleasant and the food/breakfast,which was served on help yourself large open tables was delightfully tasty and varied. There was also a cosy bar/lounge area where we spent many hours and frequently chatted to the very efficient and friendly bar staff.
From the rear garden/pool area we oculd walk straight out onto the esplenade which stretched all the way to the central and old part of town, which itself had a large array of shops, bars and restaurants whilst not forgetting many interesting and quaint buildings.
We were amazed to see that the whole sea front and beach was so well kept and clean.
The whole atmosphere from the hotel outwards was relaxing and pleasant; people just simply enjoyed themselves. The evenings were wonderful.
I/we would recommend Hotel Novotel and Varzim to anyone.
