Budget Motel-like Hotel Gives \"Budget\" A Bad Name
Sooo I’m actually currently staying at the El Dorado, and I’m winding down the first of four nights I have booked here. I’ve read mostly negative reviews here, so I was rather nervous about staying here myself. With that being said, I’d like to share what you should expect if you should choose to stay here. I’ve come with a group of four, and the price of the room was inexpensive in comparison to the other hotels on the strip after being split four ways; it’s definitely a budget stop, and it’s the biggest factor in us choosing this place. However, at the price of saving a few dollars, I can’t say I am happy with the decision we made to stay here. When we first arrived, we noticed the hotel was only slightly below average from the outside for a small hotel, and we thought it’d be okay; we were assigned our room, but we noticed right away that the room was missing the “full kitchen” the ad had promised. The only thing close to a kitchen we had was a microwave, and since we had planned to use the stove, we immediately returned to the front desk for a room with the “full kitchen”. She obliged, and we were assigned a new room with the “full kitchen” as advertised. However, when we opened the door, we immediately noticed that the two beds had both been broken, and the mattresses were halfway on the floor. My guess is teenagers had ransacked the place during senior week, but I was perplexed we had been assigned a room in that condition. Either they had done so knowing the condition and not caring to assign us a liveable room, or they had done so without actually cleaning or inspecting the room, and that troubles me as well. I’ve read a review with someone having a similar experience; I now believe that review wholeheartedly. We didn’t want that room either, so we requested our old room back (which she was supposed to hold while we inspected the new room), but she gave it away within the five minutes we were looking at the other one; that was irritating. We settled for the new room on the condition that they fix the bed... which they did in about 30 minutes. When you arrive (and I hope you decide not to stay here), you’ll notice the wall AC won’t be on, so the temperature will likely be hot; the refrigerators are also unplugged, so you have to wait on them to cool as well. Our bathroom is very basic and small and doesn’t have a counter top which is awkward. The toilet and sink weren’t very clean, so we did have to wipe them down before we trusted using them. Our shower head is barely functional (apparently clogged), and being that it's made for a person under five feet, it's awkward for a person over six feet (like myself) to use. You can tell the place is very old, and there’s a great deal of work needed to be done before it’d be a place to recommend. The Wifi and television seem to be working okay, so that’s a plus; there's also the usual outdoor pool, indoor pool, and hot tub. You get a little less than what you pay for at this joint; it’s on the bottom of the south side of the beach, and it’s a 15 minute drive or so from the hot spots on the north side. You can still get to the beach just by crossing the street, but I’d definitely spend the extra money on place that’s not nearly as sketchy. There might be a few decent rooms in this place, but if there are, I haven’t seen them yet (and we looked at four rooms today before getting this one). Stay away from this place, and get a place you’ll feel comfortable staying.
