Not Impressed
I stayed at the Super 8 Motel in Bishop, California on October 3-4, 2008. This was a mixed experience. First, the good:
• The reservation was easy to make online from the Super 8 site
• I requested a first floor room and it was honored.
• The manager fixed the broken linkage to the sink drain the next day
Now, the bad:
• When the manager found that my son was staying at LaQuinta started saying bad things about LaQuinta –that they had cockroaches, they had no continental breakfast, they had no wireless internet. These all proved to be untrue. In fact, the LaQuinta breakfast included hot Belgian waffles, hard boiled eggs, and a variety of pastries that the Super 8 did NOT have.
• The Super 8’s continental breakfast was the most Spartan that I have seen anywhere in my travels around the U.S. – two cereals, two kinds of muffins, powdered donuts, regular coffee (the decaf was empty), orange juice (it came out mostly water) and apple juice (I think).
• The manager did tell me when I checked in that the continental breakfast was “first come, first served” and they often ran out.
• When we returned to our room the afternoon of Oct. 4th, there was a large bug on the wall. I went to the office where the owner’s wife was on duty. I told her about the bug and showed her a photo of it on my camera. Her response was, “what do you want me to do about it?” She also asked if I had left the door open. I asked if she wanted me to squash it on the wall, and she walked back into her quarters. As soon as I returned to the room the owner/husband appeared with a fly swatter. It turned out that it was just a large moth and he disposed of it.
I do not think we would stay at this Super 8 again. I had reserved our room there because we have had good experiences with the last few Super 8s that we have stayed at, but it was evident at this establishment that they cared little about their customers. When I checked out on Sunday morning, the owner did not even ask how our stay was or suggest that we stay there again.
I would be much more likely to stay at the LaQuinta next year when we return to Bishop.
