Great Place--perfect for a family reunion.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/7/11
We held our family reunion at El Colorado Lodge this year, and everyone loved the place. It is located close to many of the area tourist attractions. The place is old, but that gave it charm and character. The rooms were clean and bug free. There were many different cabin layouts to choose from, and pets are allowed in some of the cabins. The swimming pool is big and maintained well. We had small children at our reunion, so the playground area (with the toys & swings) was used a lot. It was hot while we were there, so the air conditioners had to work extra hard. A couple of them actually quit working, but the staff promptly replaced them. I have read some complaints about the smell, but no one from our reunion had a complaint. I think the "smell" was possibly the carpet deodorizer that was used, but turning on the air conditioner (or getting a fan from the office to circulate the air) solved that problem. The air conditioners or fans also blocked out any noise from nearby highway traffic. Anything we needed, the office was able to supply (like a dvd player, coffeemaker, computer power cords, fans). A real plus for us was their "meeting cabin" that we also rented while we were there. I checked out the other lodging in the area, and no hotel had something this good. (Most other places had meeting areas with no kitchen or that were only available for a few hours for just one day.) Since we were renting the meeting cabin, we had it the entire time of our stay. It was a separate building so we didn't have to worry about noise carrying to a room next door. They provided plenty of tables and chairs in it so our whole group was able to eat together or do other group activities there. It had a full kitchen with every cooking apparatus you could possibly need. We had a great reunion, and that's thanks to El Colorado Lodge.

“Overpriced, rundown, smelly, etc.”
By SharonH, 6/30/11
The cabins were run down, dirty and smelled horrible. Nothing would get rid of the smell, we tried air freshener, opening the doors and windows but nothing worked. The air conditioners were loud and didn't really cool the two rooms but the noise of them did help drown out the highway noise. The beds were uncomfortable and mismatched. The first night we were there our kids were playing with their toys on the floor, when they got up, the tops of their feet were dirty from the carpet. The daily housekeeping was really nothing more than they brought in clean towels and sometimes made the beds. The website says that the rooms all come with coffee maker, iron, ironing boards etc. We had to ask for those basic items. The pool was ok but could have used a really good cleaning. The hot tub was usable but should be replaced or at least repaired soon.

very nostalgic and clean
By JOEI, 7/20/10
This is a great place to stay near Manitou Springs and the Garden of the Gods. It was very clean and neat. The separate units are very private. I wish we could have stayed longer.

A wonderful get away!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/14/09
We had a lot of fun staying at the El Colorado Lodge. When we came into our suite our girls were very excited to see that their beds were actually in another little room. They had so much fun just hanging out in that room! When we woke up in the morning we saw a deer sauntering by our front door. I think he even winked at us as he strolled by. We enjoyed the pool, the playground and the basketball court. The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful in every way. This place is very rustic but clean. It has so much character.

Been there, done that, and WILL do again!!!
By stana, 5/8/09
Stayed here 3 times and plan on going again. I stayed one weekend on business and couldn't use the fireplace during the summer nights; however, that did not take away from the enjoyment of my stay. The clean pool and hot tub are wonderful in a mountainside setting. My second stay was with my husband and two children. My kids loved it! Especially with their own room with really comfortable beds! The third time I went was with my husband for a romantic weekend getaway during this last winter in October. Loved the fireplace during the snow. It is located so close to downtown Manitou Springs and close to the pubs and restaurants which was a plus for us of being able to walk and enjoy the scenery. The owners are always accommodating and friendly! If you haven't stayed here, you must! I have been there done that, and planning on going again in the next few weeks! Enjoy your stay, with reasonable prices for singles, couples, or family!

I will be back AGAIN!
By starrysaturn, 1/13/09
My newly hubby and I went to El Colorado for our honeymoon in Oct 2008. I HIGHLY recommend this place for every one. The rates ar AWSOME! Our lodge was very clean, homey feeling, service was great and helpful w/providing brochues and coupouns. We had a great view, close to restaurants, and close to everything. You are very close to all attractions except for the zoo, north pole and seven falls, which are probably 10-15 min away from the lodge. They have a hot tube, pool, playground for little ones, tather ball, basketball and volleyball courts. When we go back to Colorado this will be the place we go.

Never Again
By Liz, 3/31/08
We have always wanted to stay at the El Colorado Lodge and finally had the oppertunity. When we arrived we paid the $5 for wood so we could have a fire in the fireplace, but never had the chance to use it. Our room was so smokey and the carpet as well as the bedding was so dirty I didn't want to touch it. I can only assume the smoke came from the room next door. Come to find out our room was refered to as the Smoke Room by the people in the Office. By the next morning our eyes burned, we were so tired due to no sleep and our clothes (all of them) smelled like we slept ON a campfire!! There were no other rooms with working heat to move us to and no refunds to be had!!! Needless to say we will never go back and don't recommend it to anyone else.As the new owners are not keeping up the property. Not Happy

We stayed at the El Colorado Lodge for a week. We had a wonderful time, the lodge is very nice, the pool area is very clean, and the staff is very friendly. I would recommend anyone going to Manitou Springs to stay at the lodge.

Great place to stay in Manitou
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/25/06
We stayed here with our two kids (ages 2 and 4). Like the other reviewers have mentioned, the room we had was actually a two-room suite, with an upper and lower level. The motel was clean, comfortable, and convenient to all of the kid-friendly attractions like Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak. The customer service was excellent. My daughter threw up on the bed the first night and the staff cheerfully brought us new bedding right away (and made the bed). Another thing I liked about El Colorado Lodge was that it provides more privacy than your typical motel. We stayed in a room at the end of the motel and it was more like staying in a duplex than a motel - no noisy people across the hall or above you! The patio had a view of the mountains and was a nice place to eat in the evening. Across the street is a great place for breakfast - the Manitou Pancake House. We would definitely stay here again.
