Best place, service, amenities for the $ you pay
By Jesses Girl, 07/01/09
I have stayed at many hotels in Pigeon Forge/ Gatlinburg and this is the best place to stay for the price range. The hotel has a very convenient location. I have stayed there 4 times already and plan to return. The staff is friendly. They have a 24 hour indoor and outdoor pool, hot tubs inside and out, and a sauna inside. The landscaping is pleasant and the outdoor pool area is very lovely. There is a working ice machine on each floor and they also have a guest laundry facility. It gets hot in the summer, and they're fine with you propping the door open. My sheets have never been dirty and trust me, I look them over with a black light before sleeping in them! They are always crisp, clean and smell fresh. They have an excellent cleaning staff, I give them an A+ for cleanliness. The cleaning staff are spanish speaking, but they can understand you when you make a request. I would rather have a spanish speaking maid that does a good job than an english speaking one who cuts corners. The carpet is in no way dirty at all and there is no musty smell. I have stayed in rooms with and without jacuzzi. The rooms are quiet at night and the beds are very comfortable. Their headboards are firmly attached to the wall, so you won't hear your neighbors if there is movement in their beds. They provide plenty of towels. The rooms are spacious with microwave, fridge, coffee pot, iron and blow dryer. The microwave and fridge are not full size, as they are probably provided as a convenience, and not intended to be used permanently by someone. You couldn't fit a turkey in the fridge, but it is big enough for a 12 pk of drinks, sandwich components and some snacks, which should be all the space someone would need for a weekend getaway. As far as the free soap goes, it's free so of course you're not going to be loaded down with it. I bring my own items in travel bottles, but I'm sure the staff would be helpful enough to replinish you with more if you run out. The toilet paper is like other hotels, your basic inexpensive kind, I always bring my own, but they do supply you with two rolls, and it would be hard to run out in one night. The heating and cooling system performs well. The rooms are up to date. They have luggage carts for transporting your luggage from the car to the room. There is only one elevator, but why would they need anymore than that? I never have to wait long to get on. How many hotels have you stayed at that have 2, 3, or 4 elevators anyway? Maybe the high dollar $200 bucks a night places do, but Shular Inn is not one of those and you do get what you pay for. The same goes for the "free continental breakfast", you get what you pay for. A bowl of cereal, gravy/biscuits, fruit, muffins, juice and coffee is a good deal for $0. They do have smoking rooms and if they're all full and you can't get one, they allow you to smoke outside in designated areas, which is better than nothing. Words of advice: If you're looking for a hotel which has a full size refrigerator/microwave, get a condo or cabin. If you desire to have an unreasonable, unlimited supply of soap and toilet paper, you're not going to get that anywhere. It's there as a convenience to you. If you want the full works for breakfast, pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, try purchasing a vacation package from someone that includes breakfast at a restaurant. What you get here is good because you're getting it for free. If 4 full size towels is not enough for one day, try investing in some beach towels for swimming and hang them out on the banister to dry in the summer. If you are looking for more than one elevator, and a staff to carry your luggage for you, go to a luxury hotel where you pay $200+ a night. You get what you pay for. So many people have the mentality that the world owes them something. It's not true!

Very Pleased!!!
By Dee, 04/20/09
What a surprise! These rooms are like brand new. They obviously take a lot of pride in this hotel and are also very reasonably priced for the quality. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. The rooms are VERY clean, smell good and provide a GOOD heating and air system. I have two children and am very picky about where I lay their heads at night. their amenities are like new, such as a mini fridge and microwave. It's also very conveniently located smack dab in the middle of Pigeon Forge. Overall, VERY satisfied! I will definately return with my family.

Great Deal for a Great Room!
By Lil' Kitty m=^_^=m, 02/23/09
The Shular Inn was the perfect place to stay! My husband and I got room 329 ... the king size jacuzzi suite. We paid a little above $100. It was extremely clean. It is right in the middle of town. The only problem was that we requested a wake-up call and it was never put it in. We loved it regardless.

first off when we arrived it was all good till when we went to go to bed one of the pillow caese had a dime size bllod spot on it.. was nasty to think if most of these hotels really change there sheets..the next day asked for some tolit paper took 1/2 hour to bring it to us we were in the second buliding in the back. also called up to the front desk just to ask if they had some matches since my lighter went out i knew we were in a non smoking room so i go outside to smoke i get the non for the eimple fact my daughter has asthma i dont even smoke in my own home the point is the front dest called me right back and said mam do you know you are in a non smoking room and i said yes i do and i go outside to smoke she said well u are not allowed to smoke outside of your room that i would have to smkoe on the thrid fllor down now you tell me why in thee world would they have on each floor including the 4th floor we were on ash trays on each end of the hallways. STUPID!! the 3rd floor was non smoking to so whats the big deal!! but annyway that night took the kids swimming across the street in the front inside pool building and come to find out the pool was cold as can be you would think it would of been heated WRONG. also no maids came up to our room not once to see if i wanted our room clean i had to hunt for them then when the next day they came after i said i wanted my room clean the girl didnt speak any english and i said i wanted my bed sheets changed and she never changed themso.. i said forget this place.that was it the only thing that was great about the hotel is there breakfest ... thats just my opinion about this hotel!! Don't Even Think About It !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/01/09
The only thing I liked about this place was leaving it !! I was so mad with this hotel that I needed a drink to calm me down. My wife and I went for a quiet getaway... we got everything but that. First, we left to visit the shops and restaurants. When we came back to go to bed around 10 o'clock that's when the "fun" began. Around 11:30 pm the nightmare starts. A room full of children and teenagers( unsupervised, parents stayed in a different area) tore that room apart. Most, if not all the rooms are ajoining rooms with paper thin walls. You can hear every word people say. With that said, you can imagine how loud it was. The kids were screaming, fighting, laughing, running, jumping and banging on the walls. We were trying to ignore it and go sleep, but they were just getting louder. They kept opening their ajoining door and knocking on ours. I met the kids outside our room and asked them to be quiet.... they only got louder. When I called the front desk to complain, they agreed to move me to another room. They didn"t tell me it was in the next building 300' away in 30 degree temps. When I got to the office the night manager told me he could hear them. By the way we were on the fourth floor. The hotel DID NOT offer to help us move our luggage( AT MIDNIGHT) or to my knowledge do anything to the other occupants. They also didn't offer to compensate us in any way. The only thing they did, was to say, We're Sorry. They don't know how true that is! Do Not stay with these people, you would be better off staying in your car.

Over priced and Outdated
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/25/08
In October 08 my granddaughter and I spent a weekend in the Smokies. The hotel room was clean, but very outdated. Heating and Cooling unit would not work properly at all. Kept us up most of the evenings with its loud on/off on/off on/off noises. Desk clerks were more interested in who was on the phone than the guests they had in front of them. Seems the Shular has lost a lot of its Touch.....Years ago it use to be a really nice place to stay and wasnt too overly priced. With all the new hotels in the area........they need to lower their prices to compensate for the outdated rooms. Will be staying somewhere else next year. Disappointed.

"DIRTY"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/01/08
Well we arrived around 10pm and headed to the pool whitch was filled with ditrty nasty water. So we hit the hot tub whitch was filled with looked like skin peelings. So we decided to go to bed. When we fliped down the top cover we found human feces. So we asked the house keeping to bring us more sheets. When they arrived they just handed me the sheets to change myself. Then the next day we found human hair on our towels. Would not keep my dog at this place. The worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Just look for the next down the road.

Nice place to stay
By Aimie L, 04/19/08
This is not a luxury hotel however, it was clean, comfortable, economical and convenient. The staff was friendly. The beds were comfortable. My family and I stayed for 3 nights and only paid $118.00. It wasnt the best hotel but for the money it was very nice. The indoor pool was great although a bit crowded but it was during Spring Break. Overall very pleased.
