Best place, service, amenities for the $ you pay
I have stayed at many hotels in Pigeon Forge/ Gatlinburg and this is the best place to stay for the price range. The hotel has a very convenient location. I have stayed there 4 times already and plan to return.
The staff is friendly. They have a 24 hour indoor and outdoor pool, hot tubs inside and out, and a sauna inside. The landscaping is pleasant and the outdoor pool area is very lovely. There is a working ice machine on each floor and they also have a guest laundry facility. It gets hot in the summer, and they're fine with you propping the door open.
My sheets have never been dirty and trust me, I look them over with a black light before sleeping in them! They are always crisp, clean and smell fresh. They have an excellent cleaning staff, I give them an A+ for cleanliness. The cleaning staff are spanish speaking, but they can understand you when you make a request. I would rather have a spanish speaking maid that does a good job than an english speaking one who cuts corners. The carpet is in no way dirty at all and there is no musty smell. I have stayed in rooms with and without jacuzzi.
The rooms are quiet at night and the beds are very comfortable. Their headboards are firmly attached to the wall, so you won't hear your neighbors if there is movement in their beds. They provide plenty of towels.
The rooms are spacious with microwave, fridge, coffee pot, iron and blow dryer. The microwave and fridge are not full size, as they are probably provided as a convenience, and not intended to be used permanently by someone. You couldn't fit a turkey in the fridge, but it is big enough for a 12 pk of drinks, sandwich components and some snacks, which should be all the space someone would need for a weekend getaway.
As far as the free soap goes, it's free so of course you're not going to be loaded down with it. I bring my own items in travel bottles, but I'm sure the staff would be helpful enough to replinish you with more if you run out. The toilet paper is like other hotels, your basic inexpensive kind, I always bring my own, but they do supply you with two rolls, and it would be hard to run out in one night.
The heating and cooling system performs well. The rooms are up to date. They have luggage carts for transporting your luggage from the car to the room. There is only one elevator, but why would they need anymore than that? I never have to wait long to get on. How many hotels have you stayed at that have 2, 3, or 4 elevators anyway? Maybe the high dollar $200 bucks a night places do, but Shular Inn is not one of those and you do get what you pay for.
The same goes for the "free continental breakfast", you get what you pay for. A bowl of cereal, gravy/biscuits, fruit, muffins, juice and coffee is a good deal for $0.
They do have smoking rooms and if they're all full and you can't get one, they allow you to smoke outside in designated areas, which is better than nothing.
Words of advice: If you're looking for a hotel which has a full size refrigerator/microwave, get a condo or cabin.
If you desire to have an unreasonable, unlimited supply of soap and toilet paper, you're not going to get that anywhere. It's there as a convenience to you.
If you want the full works for breakfast, pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, try purchasing a vacation package from someone that includes breakfast at a restaurant. What you get here is good because you're getting it for free.
If 4 full size towels is not enough for one day, try investing in some beach towels for swimming and hang them out on the banister to dry in the summer.
If you are looking for more than one elevator, and a staff to carry your luggage for you, go to a luxury hotel where you pay $200+ a night. You get what you pay for. So many people have the mentality that the world owes them something. It's not true!
