We go back every year and love it.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/6/10
We and a group of our friends go there every year together. We have been going to Kernville every year for so many years we have lost track of the number. We have stayed in several places over the years and must point out that nearly all of the properties in Kernville are old and the McCambridge is one of the best in the area. We stayed at the McCambridge for the first time the year before the current owners bought it. It was owned previously by an elderly couple who tryed but just couldn't keep up with the rooms and grounds. The current owners have spent years repairing, cleaning, painting and grooming the property and aren't finished yet. It has improved dramatically since the first time we stayed there. The rooms are clean and they are the nicest folks and frankly spoil us and our friends badly. Whatever we want we get. Some of the rooms, not all has a lovely view of the river: sometimes mother nature isn't co-operative with the water flow but that is hardly anyones fault. It is nice to have the kitchenette's and it is within walking distance of the entire town. We have never had a bad stay and recommend it highly to our friends. The parking gets a little cramped but we manage to work with it.

Very accommodating, clean, and peaceful
By Wayne, 5/13/09
We had a wonderful stay in May. We checked in reallly early (way before check in), dropped some things off and although they didn't have our room ready, they were willing to let us stay in the Suite until our's was ready. We had planned an all day road trip, so we motored back to the hotel around 8pm. Our stuff was already moved into our rooms for us. Our hotel rooms are set up with a kitchenette, so we cooked, dined, and relaxed right in our hotel room. And what a view from the front entrance; the Kern river flowing down below, mountains above. Couldn't have been better! And clean rooms to boot! Going back in June!

Booked our next stay on the way out.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/14/09
My girlfriend and I come to kernville once a year to get away from the Los Angeles hustle and bustle. We've stayed at a few places in town and decided to give the McCambridge Lodge a shot. We were pleased with our room and my girlfriend appreciated the complementary chocolate that the owners left for us. The room was tidy with a kitchenette, cable tv and just outside, a beautiful view of the river. We took the owners suggestion and ate at a restaurant walking distance from the lodge. The stay was a very positive one and upon checking out, I put in my reservation for next year.

Very nice place, run by great people.
By Mshop3, 10/6/08
I read all the reviews and here is an update. We stayed here Oct 2008 and the owners were the nicest people you could hope to meet. This is not the Hilton, but like every other place in town it is a small rustic motel run by the owners. The rooms were very clean, the view was nice. We had 2 rooms and a cabin in our group and all the rooms were very nice. Candy, coffee and even popcorn in the rooms for us. We would stay here again without question. Greg

beware...un-kept property, unprofessional management
By adam, 5/6/08
***BEWARE***these people are unprofessional, the property is rundown, and the rooms are disgusting. i'll save you the drama, but i was forced to call kernville sherriff dept. to deal with the owner and her entire family that lives at the "lodge". drive another 300 yards down the road to whispering pines. save yourself the HUGE headache from dealing with Mccambridge. i left without a refund. i was only at the property for 1 hour before i realized i had made a $300.00 mistake. pool area is dirty, rooms are old, dark and dirty. hoping to keep others from ruining what should be a great vacation.

Best location in Kernville
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/27/07
We stayed at the McCambridge Lodge in Feb.2007. The views and hospitality were second to none. We found the owners to be some of the most helpful and kind people ever. They went out of their way to make sure we had a wonderful time there . We think the lodge is the best in Kernville, and would not consider any other place to stay.

No More
By Current Resident, 8/20/06
Aug 2006, Just returned from a stay in this Motel. Let me be nice and just say it has seen better days.(stayed here a few years ago with small dog) Reservation was made for a specific room and the dog was mentioned. Upon our arrival no one answered door bell. Came back a couple hours later only to be told by a different person than the one who made the original reservation. that there would be an additional fee for the dog and that the room we had been promised was not a "dog room". We were shown another room. It was much smaller. And the price was the same. After some negotiation we were placed in the room originally promised. The additional dog fee was not rescinded.

Gave Away Our Reservations
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/17/05
We made reservations a week in advance for one night at the Maples McCambridge Lodge, a 10 room motel in Kernville. The proprietor even called us back to confirm. When we arrived in town, with our two grandchildren, we called the motel for directions. To our suprise, and anger, we were informed they must have "forgotten" to write down our reservations, the room was "double booked" and they were sold out. At first they pretended not to remember us but then let slip, "Oh, that's right, you just wanted one night." The tone gave us the impression they gave away our room for a better offer: multible days or multible rooms. They blew us off, ruined our vacation, and made my grandchildren cry. Unprofessional, watch out for this place.
