David Thompson Resort, Clearwater County

We had to cancel our reservation to this resort due to unforseen circumstances and found that they will not refund us our money. The response back was that this information is on the website and there are no exceptions to this policy. When questioning why this was not included in our reservation confirmation the answer was still the same. After reviewing all other comments on this site, I agree that these owners are scammers. I would bet that if I were to drop in on the August long weekend that my spot would already be rented out - nothing like double dipping.

The recent positive reviews can only be explained by another reviewers comment that they are by staff or the owners. This "resort" was extremely dated and filthy. The staff were rude and insulting and extremely unhelpful. I'm sure this place does not meet any safety standards. The playground is an accident waiting to happen. I would never recommend this place to anyone. There are lovely campgrounds all around this area that are called Provincial Recreation areas. You find your site and then pay by filling out a form and dropping your money in the lockbox at the front. The sites are well maintained and patrolled regularly. I had to pick awful as my rating as there was nothing worse than that. If I could put a -star I would.

Loved the scenery, good place to stop and relax. The place was clean, room was clean. Staff were really nice. Restaurant had good food. Will return.

We stayed at this "resort" last year, but I am not going to go into long details because everyone else has pretty much covered it: rude, dirty, overpriced, rip-off, scam, infested, broken-down. HOWEVER: Don't you find it a bit funny that the majority of the "positive" reviews read suspiciously like an advertisement? Read them - all too conveniently do these positive reviews list EVERY possible attraction, amenity, food, room, etc. - and they have RAVE reviews about it. Trust me. This place is a dive. And judging by reviews of the con-artist owners, I wouldn't put it past them to write their own positive reviews. If you come on this website, read the reviews, and STILL decide to book - then it is your own fault for having a miserable trip.

We booked with the david thompson resort because on the web site they claimed to have a pool. Not So, the pool has been broken for years! We were booked for a week and decided to leave; we were denied a refund! They are banking on the trees to bring customers but the pine beetle infestation is moving down the valley and there are signs of it in the camp ground! We will not go back

My new bride and I arrived on location and immediately when we pulled up the whole place did not look like the place we expected off their website as well as what the lady described on the phone. "Perfect for Honeymooners" Yeah right! "Albert's best kept secret" Total Lie! We walked into the office, wide eyed and bushy tailed and was greeted by a young girl with a chip on her shoulder. One word answers seemed to be her thing, we asked if we can see the room but she said we have to sign, here and sign here before she can let us. Red Flags went up between my wife and i and I really pushed to see the "Cabin" we had rented. She finally gave us the key after giving a smerk remark saying, I'm going to charge you no matter what, doesn't matter if you like it or not, you are going to be charged. We were totally turned off by the whole situation but took the key and headed up to our cabin, we crossed by winding roads which seemed to look like a slum and arrived at our joke of a shed, I mean cabin. We looked inside and there was nothing but a dirty bed... oh yes the lady on the phone two weeks prior assured a lake view right from our cabin. There was nothing though, just dead trees. A TOTAL NIGHTMARE! This place was nothing like what we expected or was lead to believe. On top of that I've called the RESORT about 12 times to ask for a manager or owner but haven't received a single call back. They charged my credit card $280.00 and I haven't received a refund. We recently stayed at this campround with our family. When we checked in, we were greeted with a large bag of garbage in the middle of our site, the water supply valve broken, and the power plug so worn that the plug had to be taped on to hold it in place. The resort staff were busily working away gravelling camp spots (why we don't know) and installing new outhouses. As soon as the sun is up they equipment started and and didn't end until evening. In our opinion, this work should be carried out on the off season. I would suggest the resort staff spend time cleaning the bathrooms instead, as they badly needed it. Also, they charge $5.00/day for dogs, while the resort owners dog runs free throughout the campground and no extra service is provided for this fee. We have stayed here before and enjoyed ourselves. It is apparant that the service and attention to detail is slipping. We will be going elsewhere next time. For $50+/night, there are lots of other places.

Myself and my family stayed at this resort during the summer of 2008, we were in the hotel and some friends stayed in a cabin...hotel was dirty and we also found mold in our room in multiple places. Also, we were not so kindly woke up by some extra large bugs of some type...The cabin was nice, there was only a bed, couch and fireplace in it, but could be quite romantic I guess. We found the staff was quite rude, the restaurant food was not so delicious and overpriced... oh and don't be fooled by the website, not all of the amenities listed are actually in working condition. With all the money that this place takes out of their guests, you'd think they could get an exterminator, replace rotting floors, and hopefully get rid of the mold. It does have great views and a beautiful backdrop of the mountains though!

Be careful of the positive reviews here, suspect they are by family/friends of the owners. We were there in July/08 and had nothing but problems from day one. Their generators couldn't keep up with demand and we had no electricity everyday we were there. This was very important for us because of our baby requiring a microwave for her bottle (no refund offered). restaurant is below average at best, motel is dirty/old. Staff is unfriendly and down right rude at times. We ended up leaving 2 days earlier than we had booked due to electricity problems. (again no refund)This should not be called a "resort" by any means.
