friendly hotel, good location, excellent food
By ,
I spent a few days in Ieper (Ypres) recently and choose this hotel based on recommendations and an impressive array of Internet reviews that ranked it consistently highly. The hotel is well located within Ieper, a few minute walk from the Cloth Hall and a few more to the Menin Gate. The staff are friendly, helpful and speak excellent English. The rooms are a good size, have quiet air conditioning and a useful mini-bar fridge. If there's one minor fault, it would be the matress quality which is not up to the standard of the rest of the hotel. The restaurant is excellent and recommended whether you are staying at the hotel or just passing by. Didn't look at the wine list as they have a decent selection of local beers! Make sure you make a reservation. The Hotel offers tours from the Flanders Battlefield Tours company. I thoroughly recommend these for the depth of historical knowledge of the guides and enthusiasm for the subject. If you're into Trappist Beer, Saint Sixtus Abbey is nearby - the popular cafe is well worth a trip.

We have just returned from staying at the Hotel Ariane. When we arrived we were surprised to find we had been upgraded to an executive room with jacuzzi etc.free of charge. It was excellent. Room was amazing, hotel was brilliant, staff were all very helpful and friendly and food was mouthwatering. Car park at the hotel is also a bonus in leper. Would recommend this hotel to others, especially for special occasions. Plenty to see and do in the town and nearby. Hope to go back. staff were all very friendly and helpful and food was

A marvelous experience
By ,
My wife and I found Ariane to be among the finest hotel experiences we have had whether in the United States or Europe. The staff in all areas of Ariane were very friendly and accomodating. The rooms were both large and comfortable. The restaurant and bar were excellent. The location was an easy stroll to the center of Ieper. Bonuses in the experience was an ample parking area at the front door of the hotel and the lobby had fascinating artifacts from World War I. To us they were museum quality. This was our second visit to Ariane and there was no drop off in the quality of service and assistance provided. The management and staff are to be commended. We can recommend Ariane without equivocation. Canton, MA USA

Going back in two weeks.
By ,
After spending last summer in this fabulous hotel, we have made this wonderful place our new annual holiday destination. A little pricey, but well worth every penny as the experience of living in the lap of luxuary amongst unrivalled cuisine and the friendly helpful staff is something that one could not put a price on!

Topnotch downtown Ypres
By ,
We visited the hotel on a tour through Flanders' Battlefields. The reception was warm & very helpfull. We thought the little 'museum' was a nice touch. While you wait you can look at some old things (old munition, decorations, etc...) they dug up there, or read some WWI posters or admire the uniforms.

The rooms were clean, spatious & bright. The location was very quiet, but still only a couple of minutes away of the Menin Gate or the square. Their free parking is a blessing & the breakfast was among the best we had on this trip. We also tried the daymenu and ate cheapest, but best in the hotelrestaurant. Downtown Ypres has some more very good restaurants, but price/quality The Ariane remained unbeaten.

Last but certainly not least, there staff was a dream. Ever friendly & pleasant, even for the more 'difficult' guests they went out of their way to make everything as good as they could.

If you ever visit Ypres and you don't object to the price. This is the hotel to be!

Friendly and Modern
By ,
We've stayed at this hotel twice, once in 1998 and the last time in August 2004. It's not particularly cheap by Euro standards at 100 for a double room with breakfast, but all the same it represents very good value for money. Compared with English hotel rates it's an absolute bargain, of course.

We had one of the new air-conditioned rooms this time. Nice and big, with a good bathroom and all facilities present and correct. Not everyone would like the high-quality but rather spartan decor, though, in muted plain colours and with no pictures or other decorations to enliven the walls.

We didn't try the bar or the restaurant as we like the brasseries and cafes in the main square. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide choice of bread, rolls, preserves, ham, cheese, etc.

The staff at the Ariane are very friendly and pleasant and, like most people in Ieper it seems, speak very good English. The hotel might not have the quirky charm of an old-fashioned establishment but it makes up for that with a location that manages to be both quiet and near to Ieper's attractions. The free car park is a big plus and the staff were happy for us to leave our car there after we had checked out so we could visit the In Flanders Fields museum in the Cloth Hall.
