Grand Hotel de la Paix, Lyon

The outside of the hotel looks very nice and the location is obviously great. However .... inside the hotel is a completely different story. Not a centime has been spent on this place in the past 20 years. EVERYTHING was broken (lights, bathscreen, hairdryer, mirror), or missing (remote control) or so dirty you didn't want to touch it. The curtains & voiles hadn't been cleaned in at least 10 years, they were dark yellow with dirt, and you could have stood them upright by themselves. Disgusting. When I asked for my phone line to be opened, so that I could place a call, the staff did not know how to do that. The spiral staircase down to the basement where breakfast is served is so rickety that it moves and sways and was frankly scary. This was one of the very worst hotels I have ever had the misfortune to stay at, and I wouldn't go back for all the tea in China. Sorry, but there it is.
