Like night and day
By ,
Time to pull over for the night and get off the bike. This place looked so cool from the 15, like an oasis in the desert, a real piece of Americana. It was dark, and I was tired. In the morning, it was light, I was awake, and the harsh reality came shining through. Bugs in the bathroom, a junkyard out back, trash blowing around the parking lot, and some scary looking folks both staying and working there. I loved it!

Nice quiet place, friendly staff, very clean rooms
By ,
We were going to be visiting the Dumont Dunes located near Baker. The horrible winds made us leave the dunes...ended up in Baker at the Royal Hawaiian Motel, all around a great place, clean rooms, good prices, safe location. Staff was extra helpful..brought ice and extra towels for our family. Helped us find a place for dinner, and helped us get parts for a broken down bike. Would highly recommend to anyone, great price and service. We had a great stay at the Royal Hawaiian..next morning at the restaurant heard other people complaining about the rude staff& outrageous prices at the Wills Fargo and the roaches and filth at the Bun Boy Motel, we let them know what a great stay we had at the Royal Hawaiian. Owners should look into getting some advertising for their place. They have the other 2 motels beat in that little town...we will definately return!!

Complete Nightmare! Run
By ,
My husband, child and I were on our way to Pismo Beach (from Las Vegas our home) when our car broke down in Baker, CA. While our car was getting fixed at their only car repair shop, we stayed at the Royal Hawaiian Motel, which was the worst place on earth to stay. We were told originally that this was the only motel that didn't have bed bugs, so that is why we stayed there, as there is only 3 other motels which were suppose to be the ones with the bed bugs, but we were lied to of course. Let me try to make this as short as possible, which is hard because there were so many problems, and horrible situations we encountered. First of all, there was blood stains all over the entire room, on the comforter, on the bedskirt, on the sink, and on the doors. Besides the blood stains, there was black stains completly covering the doors and walls, the maids don't vacum, it is so bad that the toilet has protective sheets on them. Well now lets get to the crime on the land, it turns out that they have a meth lab that they use every night, there are drug deals that go on all day and night and the place is filled with crack heads, there are abandoned cars on the land, old toys, it lookls like a junk yard. If I were you, and you got stuck there, I would tell the driver of the tow truck to take you to Barstow. It is very far from being safe, and I have only told you half of our problems, dont stay in Baker, there is something very wrong going on in the whole town.

It Just Kept On Getting Worse
By ,
I wrote the owner's a letter. Here's an exerpt: The condition of this motel room, quite honestly, was appalling. What every human being needs most in the 100 degree heat of Baker that night is an air conditioner and the one in that room never did bring the room temperature down to a comfortable level (85 degrees). My daughter got very sick on the dessert drive and an air conditioned hotel room in a Baker motel is expected! It was bad enough that many of the lights didnt work and the bed was so bad that every time I got up it rocked and rolled so badly it woke my husband; but I nearly fell when I sat on the broken chair and the shower head fell off and knocked my husband in the head. Then, trying to take a shower was impossible without flooding the bathroom because the shower door wouldnt close; all of this, and minimal amenities - only two TV stations, no TV remote, no clock, no shampoo, etc. To top it off, we wanted a little bit of cooler ice for our water bottles when we headed back out into the heat the next day and the front desk told us the ice machine was broken.

Bad night in bad rock!
By ,
Got the the hotel and stopped after fighting Las Vegas traffic, and we were exhausted. Had to deal with a l0 year old to get the room, while her mother just sat there and said nothing. No bathtub, and shower had a hole in the floor that we kept stepping in. Nothing to brag about. No remote in room, and carpet was extrememly old and worn. Won't make the same mistake twice!

Never again
By ,
A grim motel in a grim town. As another review says, the owners have given up and repairing the broken windows, toilet seat, sink, etc. etc. seemed to be evidence. Dire furnishing (keep your shoes on), vile showers, and no, not value for money, not for $50. A Motel 6 costs that and it is clean and the TV will work. Memo to Motel 6 - open in Baker and put this lot out of business.

Excellent value, nice mom & pop Motel
By ,
We stayed at the Royal Hawaiian on March 27, 2005. We only paid $55 for a room with 2 beds. The room was very clean and quiet. Never heard any noise after we checked in. Desk clerk was helpful in giving directions on how to travel to Death Valley to see the wild flowers. Motel is in a good location, Denny's is just a short walk. Gas prices for the area were unbelievable!!!

Maybe the worst motel in the US
By ,
Easily the worst motel I have ever stayed in. Wow. When you get there, it looks cute, but they stop trying at the construction of the front office. The motel is right in front of a junk yard. Semis drove behind the motel to stay the night, and owners of the trailers next door drove right by my door to get home. The TV didn't work, 80% of the light bulbs were burnt out, the metal piece around the shower controls weren't even screwed in, and the shower didn't just drip- it flowed all night long. I don't consider making sure the forest green/blue shag carpet matched with the forest green/hot pink curtains & comforter as the owners "trying". They stopped trying LONG ago. I have a feeling they weren't the only motel owners to stop trying, in the Cocos the next morning, others were very disappointed in their stay at the Bun Boy. Although, Will's Fargo Motel looked better on the outside. If its Baker or camping, pick camping.

Nothing Royal but excellent value for money
By ,
I spent a night at this motel on my way to Las Vegas. The main reason to stay here was its low cost and being in a 2 hour driving distance from Vegas. It is a nice motel with the basic amenities. It is nothing royal but the owners have tried to incorporate a Hawaiian look. Very good value for money as it costs only $41 for a night for 2 persons. Opposite to Denny's and very close to Mad Greek cafe and the world's tallest thermometer. I stayed on 30th night as I planned late to go to Vegas on 31st night and nothing was available in Vegas.
