A sad little place...

My husband had dreamed of staying in this inn since he was a high school kid ditching school, hitchhiking to Ventura to hang out on the beach! Oh, to stay right on the beach! Just walk out the door and there you are! So we made reservations (easy and pleasant), gathered up both sets of in-laws, various children and grandchildren, and met in Ventura for the long awaited beach trip.
Posiives: The beach is wonderful! The Inn staff was pleasant, the free breakfast offerings were adequate (Great Grandpa and the kids loved all the CostCo style pastries!). And the location was great! The kids lived in the ocean the whole time we were there. The view from the top floor was fabulous.
Negatives: The Inn is much too expensive for the shabby state it is presently in. From peeling wall paper, worn, soiled carpets, moldy shower tile and shower curtains, tubs I wouldn't let the children take tub baths in (showers only because of the mold), to bath fixtures in disrepair... We were very disappointed, and somewhat taken aback, at the poor condition of the rooms we were given. They were not at all like the rooms the public is invited to peek into.
So, while we enjoyed our family and the beach, the rooms were a disappointment and overpriced for the condition of this little place. With some basic repairs and TLC, The Inn on The Beach could be the sort of place we would love to return to. But next trip to Ventura, we'll look for other accomodations.
